Ozuna has rarely met a genre he couldn’t shine within. His string of hits runs from EDM-laced floor fillers to perreo intenso paeans. Yet with Afro, the Latin music superstar moves even further from his perceived musical comfort zone as he explores the rich sonic world of Afrobeats. While not his first foray into this scene, having memorably collaborated with Afro B on 2020’s “Drogba (Joanna)” remix, this seven-song EP finds him more fully embracing the style while blending it with the Caribbean vibes he’s more familiar with. This leads to thrilling moments like “Isla Desierta” and “Curarme El Alma” as well as multilingual collaborations with Nigerian singers Davido and Omah Lay. Yet perhaps the biggest flex comes on “Tucu”, with rising Puerto Rican rapper Amarion adding a clever contrast to Ozuna’s melodic potency.
