To aid the story of India’s fêted badminton athlete Saina Nehwal, composer Amaal Mallik digs into an orchestral, choral and mostly instrumental score. Songs like “The Sword of Saina” and “The Staircase of Life” are heightened by flute and string sections, but Mallik also scatters guitar melodies throughout, best heard on the rock-influenced “Parinda”. And with vocal performances from Shreya Ghoshal on “Chal Wahin Chalein” as well as singer-composer sibling Armaan Malik on “Main Hoon Na Tere Saath”, there are also shining excursions into electronic, heart-tugging ballads.
