Andrew Clement Serkis[1][2] (lahir 20 April 1964) ialah seorang pelakon dan pengarah filem dari England, United Kingdom. Beliau terkenal atas keterlibatannya lakonan tangkapan gerakan serta animasi komputernya dalam beberapa projek tertentu termasuk siri filem The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003) dan The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) sebagai Gollum dan King Kong dalam filem khusus watak tersebut tahun 2005.
Kerjayanya mendapat sambutan baik secara kritis[3][4][5] sehingga meraih Anugerah Empire dan Anugerah Saturn.
Awal hidup dan pendidikan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Serkis lahir dan dibesarkan di Middlesex. Ibunya, Lylie Serkis (nama keluarga asal: Weech) merupakan seorang guru pendidikan khas berketurunan Inggeris manakala ayahnya Clement Serkis seorang ahli ginekologi daripada keluarga Sarkisian[6] berketurunan Armenia berasal dari Iraq.[7][8]
Beliau belajar di St Benedict's School di Ealing sebelum meneruskan pengajiannya dalam bidang seni visuali di Lancaster University. Di sinilah beliau terlibat dalam beberapa produksi pementasan teater sebagai seorang pelakon, perkara ini mendorong Serkis mengubah minatnya di mana beliau mempelajari bidang lakonan.[9]
Kerjaya perfileman
[sunting | sunting sumber]Beliau mula muncul dalam perlakonan melalui peranan kecil pada awalnya, salah satu lakonan awal beliau ialah dalam sebuah episod drama The Darling Buds of May (1992). Beliau mula menjadi terkenal dalam sebuah telefilem produksi bersama BBC/HBO berjudul Einstein and Eddington (2008) - telefilem tersebut memgisahkan saintis terkenal Albert Einstein (lakonan Serkis) dari saat beliau mengembangkan teori kerelatifan bersama rakan seperjuangannya Arthur Eddington (lakonan David Tennant).[10]
Beliau melakonkan watak Gollum dalam siri filem Lord of the Rings pada taun 2000-an - lakonan beliau tidak sahaja mengagumi dan menarik perhatian ramai penonton malah mencetuskan pertelingkahan mengenai penerapan teknologi maya dalam seni lakonan filem; ada sesetengah pengkritik filem menyatakan kelayakan Serkis dalam pencalonan Anugerah Akademi untuk Pelakon Pembantu Lelaki Terbaik kerana lakonannya melibatkan suara, bahasa badan dan eksepresi mukanya.[11]
Pada 2011, beliau mengasaskan The Imaginarium Studios - sebuah studio produksi kreatif digital yang turut mengkhusus kepada -tangkapan gerakan bersama Jonathan Cavendish di Ealing, London.[12]
