Desiderius Erasmus

Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus 28 Oktober 1466[1][2] – 12 July 1536) atau juga dikenali secara ringkasnya dengan nama Erasmus , merupakan seorang cendekiawan berbangsa Belanda yang sangat dikenali atas pemikiran humanisme beliau yang diadasarkan kepada ajaran Kristian (Christian humanism).[3] Pendekatan beliau dalam menterjemahkan Kitab Perjanjian Baru kepada bahasa-bahasa Latin Umum dan Yunani banyak mencetuskan perbincangan mengenai kandungan dan ajaran dalam kitab suci tersebut sehingga memainkan peranan penting dalam kedua-dua pergerakan Reformasi penganut mazhab Protestan dan Reformasi Balas penganut mazhab Katolik.

Desiderius Erasmus lahir di Rotterdam pada 28 Oktober lewat tahun 1460-an.[1][4] Nama beliau diberikan ayahnya sempena memperingati Erasmus dari Formia,[5] seorang santo serta juga salah satu daripada Empat Belas Penolong Suci.
