Québec’s forests are a source of essential recreation, a regional economic lever and a key player in the fight against climate change.
Our forests are ubiquitous in Québec, stretching over 900,000 km2 and covering nearly half of the province. 92% of them are public and are therefore managed by the government.
The management of public forests and the supervision of private forests are based on the foundations of sustainable management. Management that takes into account wildlife species and all its users, as well as laws and regulations that evolve as field experiments are conducted.
Knowledge that is used to improve forest practices and adapt them to the intensification of natural disturbances or climate change, but also helps to optimize wood use and processing processes.
