🎤 “Gender mainstreaming in the process is non-negotiable. Gender is a critical factor in health because it influences health behaviours, access to healthcare, and health outcomes. Recognizing gender differences helps in designing health policies that are more effective and equitable.” 💡 Ronald Musizvingoza, researcher at the United Nations University Institute in Macau, speaks on Gender and Health at the Digital Technology and Sustainable Development Talent Programme Summer Camp. 👉 More about our researchers: https://lnkd.in/gpkrVfu6 and our training programmes: https://lnkd.in/gsd-XjQe #Gender #HealthEquity #SustainableDevelopment #DigitalTechnology #HealthPolicy #GenderStudies #Research #UNUMacau #SDGs #GenderMainstreaming
I had the pleasure of delivering a training session on #Gender and #Health to students from Northwestern Polytechnical University, China as part of our Digital Technology and Sustainable Development Talent Programme United Nations University Institute in Macau The Summer School on Agent-Based Modelling to Support Better Policies, introduced students to #ABM, an approach that allows researchers to simulate the actions and interactions of individuals within complex systems, addressing intricate challenges where #environmental, #social, and #economic issues intersect, particularly in the context of #pandemic preparedness and response. Understanding these complex systems is crucial for effective #policy-making. While doing this, #gender mainstreaming in the process is non-negotiable. Gender is a critical factor in #health because it influences health behaviours, access to #healthcare, and health outcomes. Recognizing #gender differences helps in designing health policies that are more effective and equitable. Therefore it is essential to understand the diverse needs, challenges, and priorities of #women, #girls, #boys and #men to ensure inclusive policies that address these interconnected issues. It was a rewarding experience to introduce key #gender concepts including the concept of #intersectionality to students, primarily from the computer and physical sciences disciplines. The highlight of the lecture was the engaging discussions around #gender #myths and #stereotypes while debunking them with facts. I deeply appreciate the openness and frankness displayed by the participants in addressing these issues. The process becoming a moment of reflection towards our own inherent #gender biases allows us to critically examine and challenge the stereotypes and assumptions we hold, fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment for all As the students complete their summer school and work on their group projects, I hope they will integrate #gender perspectives throughout the process. I will be looking forward to attending their project presentations and discovering how they have integrated gender will in designing their models. #Gender equity is essential for achieving transformative change as we approach the #2030Agenda deadline. #genderequality #digitaltechnology #SDGs #intersectionality #policymaking #agentbasedmodelling

Poverty is not a choice. Around the world, poverty affects both employed and unemployed individuals. According to the International Labour Organization, one in five working people is poor. If current trends continue, 575 million people will still be living in extreme poverty, and only one-third of countries will have halved their national poverty rates by 2030. Meanwhile, 10% of the world's population owns 76% of the global wealth. Strong social protection systems are crucial for mitigating the effects of poverty and preventing many from becoming poor. The #GlobalGoals aim to end inequality and achieve a more just, peaceful future for all, ensuring everyone can enjoy the fundamental human right of living in dignity, free from poverty.
