ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ സർജൻ, മെഡിക്കൽ അക്കാദമിക്, കൊൽക്കത്ത സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് മാസ്റ്റർ ഓഫ് സർജറി ബിരുദം നേടിയ ആദ്യത്തെ മെഡിക്കൽ പ്രൊഫഷണൽ എന്നിവയൊക്കെയായിരുന്നു ലളിത് മോഹൻ ബാനർജി. [1] കൽക്കട്ട സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ ആർ. ജി. കർ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളജ് ആശുപത്രിയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ പ്രൊഫസറായിരുന്നതു[2][3] കൂടാതെ ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രസിഡന്റിന് സ്വകാര്യ സർജനുമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. [4] അസോസിയേഷൻ ഓഫ് സർജൻസ് ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സ്ഥാപകരിലൊരാളായ അദ്ദേഹം അതിന്റെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്നു (1941-1942). [5] ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലാണ് പ്രശസ്ത കവിയും നോബൽ സമ്മാന ജേതാവുമായ രബീന്ദ്രനാഥ ടാഗോറിന്റെ കൂടെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അവസരം ലഭിച്ചത്. വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിന് നൽകിയ സംഭാവനകൾക്ക് 1955 ൽ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന മൂന്നാമത്തെ സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയായ് പദ്മഭൂഷൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ സർക്കാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നൽകി. [6] സോഡെപൂരിലെ ഒരു റോഡിന് ഡോ. എൽ എം ബാനർജി റോഡ് എന്ന് പേരിട്ടു. [7]
