CEE Online Meeting 2021 - Meet for a Better Future!
[edit]Teaching Wikipedia in Armenia
Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2021 - Meet for a Better Future! the annual conference began on November 5 and was held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Wikimedia Armenia staff participated in the conference with a lecture on "Teaching Wikipedia in Armenia", presenting the organization's long experience of teaching Wikipedia.
As it was decided during the planning stage, each speaker presented in detail a certain aspect of teaching Wikipedia: the background of Wikipedia training, the first steps taken and the selection of target groups, the extension of Wikipedia courses to other projects (for example, the “Financial-Economic Wikimonth” project). An interesting analysis was made of the best practices, failures, and lessons learned over the years. The lecture ended with the analysis of the changes conditioned by COVIDd-19, and the possibilities and limitations created by it.
About 30 people from wiki communities of different countries joined the lecture.
Khachaturian Days on Wikipedia
In addition to the 45-minute lecture, it was possible to present a 5-minute "lightning talk" with a very brief introduction to a project, a tool, or an idea. Using this format, Mher Bekaryan presented an ongoing project, "Khachaturian Days on Wikipedia," which is a long-term project.
During the talk, not only the project and its purpose were presented, but also the opportunities for cooperation with other wiki communities to translate and present reliable information in other-language Wikipedias about Aram Khachaturian and his activities. After the talk, some wiki community members expressed hope that such cooperation would be possible in the near future.
Wiki Loves Monuments 2021: Winners
[edit]In November 2021, Wikimedia Armenia launched the evaluation phase of the Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 photo contest.
In September 2021, the participants of the Armenian community uploaded photos of 5668 monuments from the list of immovable monuments of history and culture of Armenia to Wikicommons.
Before the evaluation phase, the selection of photos that are compatible with the rules of the contest took place. Volunteer participants removed all those photos, which were incorrect in composition, oblique, with the presence of people in the foreground, or extensively edited. When choosing, attention was paid to the size of the photos, the descriptions, the availability of the state monument’s corresponding number, and its authenticity.
The selected photos were evaluated by a jury. To improve the impartiality two active participants from the international wiki community were involved. The evaluation went through three stages, ten photos of six participants were selected, which are presented to the jury of the international competition.
