Training modules: Can you help us with translation?

Hello Shangkuanlc, hope all is well! As you may know, we at the Wikimedia Foundation's Support and Safety team are developing new training materials to help contributors deal with online harassment situations, and with problems at real life events. The final English version is now finished!

I'm wondering if you would be willing to help us translate content for these Training Modules into your language. We are targeting a minimum of ten languages for these modules, including the English original.

If the answer is yes, please let me know with a ping, or just get stuck in - either way, we would really appreciate your support! Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:10, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

@JSutherland (WMF):, very helpful content and definitely a thing I would like to help! May I ask some volunteer who is major in translation for help? It seems quite a lot but it is really a good briefing for event organizers, thank you for building this documents! --Liang(WMTW) (talk) 18:30, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for such a fast reply :) Please ask whomever you would like - the more people the better! Feel free to work on whichever section interests you - I know it is very long. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 23:54, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello again! Just wanted to say thank you for offering to help on the Training Modules translation drive. This is just a gentle reminder that any help translating, even a few lines or messages, will get us closer to the goal of having these important materials available to more language communities. We are hoping to make progress on this by the end of the month. If you have any questions, or need assistance, I’m happy to chat.

Thanks again! Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:17, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

@JSutherland (WMF):, I just want to provide a feedback when I am in the middle of translating these instructions. The text is a bit... lengthy for one sentence. I mean for example "Global sysops (or users with administrator rights on more than one wiki) can also help to keep cross-project abuse to a minimum (or help support projects without administrators or with very few), though the role of combatting global abuse is generally best left to the stewards." this description has at least four clauses and the subjects are varied in this sentence. I don't know if this is easy to translate in other language but this is a bit hard to translate this into easily understandable Chinese. I would suggest if we have a chance of rewriting this in the future, make the description put in shorter sentences. --Liang(WMTW) (talk) 13:54, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Hello Shangkuanlc - thanks for the feedback. Indeed, some of the sentences are quite long. I am very willing to shorten these where it makes sense to do so (and where it will not impact existing translations). I will shorten this one now. Please feel free to give me any more that are difficult to translate and I will do my best to change them to make them easier. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:29, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia Library User Group is being renamed!

Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). If you joined us during the meeting, we’d like to thank you for your interest. If not, not to worry, we have lots of things planned for the user group in which you can participate.

This message is to inform you that based on the input received from the user group members and the founding members, it was agreed that the Wikipedia Library User Group’s name be reconsidered by a voting process. As a valued member of the user group, we’d like to invite you to vote on the list of potential names. You can vote by following this link. The poll will run for a timeframe of two weeks. Wikipedia Asian Month 2017 officially starts!

Dear WAM organizer,

I’m Erick Guan, the coordinator of WAM 2017. Welcome to Wikipedia Asian Month 2017. Here is some information about organizations of events at a national level.

Timeline

The event lasts a month for the participants. As of the beginning of the event, please:

  • Invite previous participants to join. We have a template you may want to use.
  • Setup your WAM page in your local wikiproject if you haven’t done that.
  • Link your WAM page at Wikipedia Asian Month 2017. It’s important for others to understand and connect to your community! Remove the X when you done that. WAM is organized at national level. So I have to ask you to put your country in front of your name if you haven’t done that.
  • Publish a notification about WAM in site notice as well as village pump. Go public!
  • Connect with us. Generally send me an email so that we can reach you for future information!
  • Become the jury member in a campaign on Fountain which is an amazing tool for you to supervise participants’ articles. If you don’t have the campaign set up, please contact us! And put a link to your community’s campaign page for participants’ navigation.
  • Organize a off-site editathon event. A coffee bar, internet and laptops. Though it’s optional. If you want to do that, please contact me.

In the following days, you should answer the questions from your community and supervise the submissions. Hope you have fun!

Interesting articles

Have some interesting articles in your mind or from community? Drop us a line so that we can exchange the information to other communities.

Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up

Hello Shangkuanlc/Archive 3,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

Come join Wikimedia CEE Spring 2018/CEE Women again! <3

Get a postcard from one of the countries in red :)

Hello, Shangkuanlc! You receive this message because last year you took part in the CEE Women challenge. This year the challenge repeats, and it will take longer: from now until the end of May (about 10 weeks).

Please, feel invited to visit the page Wikimedia CEE Spring 2018/CEE Women and join the challenge again. Help have more notable women from Central and Eastern Europe in more language versions globally, including Chinese. We again have a list of ideas for biographic articles of women from all over the CEE.

What is different this year is that now you can set your own minimal number of articles as a measure of your challenge (i don't advise you to challenge yourself with more than 70 ;) 10-20 is perfect!). Also, you can receive as a prize a postcard not only from Bulgaria (as in 2017), but also from a list of countries from CEE and around the world. Apart of being a receiver, you can also opt to be a sender of postcards from your country to some of the other participants! That would also be awesome!

Thank you in advance for any contribution you make to CEE Women, and for spreading the word in your local wiki community! Love, Vassia / Spiritia 18:42, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

The Community Wishlist Survey

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Wikimania Ambassador

Hi!

I noticed that you have signed up as a Wikimedia Diversity Ambassador, after the Diversity Conference held in Stockholm 2017. In August this year, Wikimania will take place in Stockholm, and our goal is to use Ambassadors to reach out to local communities, to spread the news about the conference and the outcomes afterwards. The conference theme (still to be announced) will connect closely to diversity. If you would like to be involved as a Wikimania ambassador, please sign up at the Ambassador page at the Wikimania wiki!

A first thing to do, if you would like to help out, would be to translate the scholarship page at the Wikimania wiki into the language(s) you speak!

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support

Hello. You are receiving this message because you kindly helped with affiliates-related translations in the past. The movement needs you again! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help keen translators like you figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome. While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :)

Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected].

Best regards,

Mervat (WMF) 17:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

翻譯通知:Template:InternetArchiveBot header

您好 Shangkuanlc,

因您於Meta註冊要成為一名中文(台灣)、繁體中文和中文的翻譯人員,所以接收到此通知。 Template:InternetArchiveBot header 頁面已經可以翻譯,您可到下列連結進行翻譯:

The InternetArchiveBot team has come up with a new header for its documentation and user pages designed to make important links as easy to find as possible. We use this header on the bot's global user page, and we have it set up to show the labels in your interface language, meaning that the labels will appear in Russian on Russian Wikipedia (unless you override the interface language).

In order for this feature to work, we need translations of those labels. There are only six labels:

  • About the Bot
  • Report Problem
  • Contact Us
  • Documentation
  • Configure
  • Disable Bot

If you know how to say those things in another language, you can help! And your work will make it easier for non-English speakers to use InternetArchiveBot.

Thank you to everyone who translated "Template:InternetArchiveBot header". The template is now available in 64 languages (including variants)! Now when people visit the bot's user page on those language wikis, they will be greeted with navigation options in their language. (We have since added one more link to the header – "Translate" – translations are appreciated!) This page I am requesting translations for is the "report problem" page for InternetArchiveBot, directing the user to different places depending on the kind of problem they are having. There are a total of 17 terms to translate, consisting of short phrases and sentences. This page is directly linked from the header on InternetArchiveBot's global user page, so your work will likely be seen.
