Add topicEnhancement support request
[edit]Hello,
I would like to offer a patch to fix to add some detection for question marks.
This would allow to avoid this kind of automated replies I've seen on #mediawiki: - ! [remote rejected] API_Versioning -> API_Versioning (can not update the reference as a fast forward) - ok, you just typed an exclamation mark with no meaning in the channel, good job. If you want to see a list of all keys, check !botbrain
I cloned the GitHub repository but can't find this string inside.
Where is the source code currently used live? --Dereckson (talk) 00:44, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Move page to mediawiki / wikitech?
[edit]Heya,
Is there a specific reason this page is on meta? Or can we move it either to Mediawikiwiki or Wikitech? Drdee (talk) 16:38, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
@instance
[edit]The command @instance
would seem to need to be explained/documented. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:20, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- Why, billinghurst? It's a
root
only command. Everyone with that level of access should know the format for it which is@instance <bot instance> #<channel>
. {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 13:46, 28 December 2014 (UTC)- Because all the other root commands have been documented, and there will be new root users. Documentation should be complete wherever we are, not components being implicit. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:54, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have no objections except that last I knew, the command could cause the bot to crash and generally shouldn't be used. I'm not sure if it is more stable now or not. I should look at the code sometime and see if I can't make some other fixes as well. I just don't have time for a project of that scale right now. Feel free to add it if you see fit. I've given you all of the needed information here. :) {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 14:05, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Nix the whipping?
[edit]Friends, as a volunteer I suggest that we don't need to use the image File:Whipping_a_working_bot.png. I'm assuming the intent is comic relief, but it turns me off personally, and brings to mind all sorts of unpleasant thoughts--are we relying on bots to do the heavy work because we can't whip the volunteers? Not to mention the actual history of chattel slavery. Adamw (talk) 08:13, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- nothing to do Wm-bot doesn't use the image from looking at the file's global usage. Best you take your complaint to somewhere pertinent. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:17, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Sure, I've deleted already. For reference, I found the image was added by an IP editor in https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wm-bot&diff=prev&oldid=5490293&diffmode=source , so it would be difficult to ask the original author what they intended and whether another image might serve better. - Fair call. Don't think there is two hoots of concern. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:39, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
