Introducing Edit Patrol: Assisting Rollbackers on the Wikipedia Android App
[edit]The Mobile Apps team has recently released a new feature in the Android app to assist rollbackers in patrolling from their mobile device without leaving the Android app. Edit Patrol is a suggested edit that allows users with rollback rights to view the recent changes feed, with access to undo, rollback, thank, and post talk page messages.
The feature is currently available on Indonesian, French, and Spanish Wikipedia. We hope to make it available to English Wikipedia rollbackers in the coming month.
You can learn more about the feature and its development on our project page. Edit Patrol does not intend to replace existing patrolling tools, rather fill some gaps that have been highlighted in the mobile space. Prior to writing a single line of code, the team conducted interviews with patrollers and conducted a comparative review of existing patrolling tools. Throughout development, we have continued to incorporate feedback from members of the community. We prioritized collaboration with communities that have traditionally had difficulty utilizing existing tools, specifically folks using mobile devices.
After initial release, we heard requests to add access to user talk warning templates in the talk page message flow. Users are now able to search and use user talk warning templates as part of the tool. For languages that do not have user warning templates, the team reviewed messages across languages & created 10 example messages that will be preloaded into the app: you can learn more about those messages and leave feedback here.
The feature currently allows users to view the feed of recent edits for only one language wiki at a time (the primary language set in their app), but we are interested to hear if there is a preference from multi-wiki rollbackers to have the ability of patrolling multiple languages in a single feed.
Please check out this presentation with more information, and a demonstration of the feature to learn more. If you have any questions or feedback, we welcome it on the project’s discussion page, or please attend our open demonstration hours for this feature on Google Meet on the 26th of April 2024 at 18 UTC (You can determine the right time in your time zone using a time zone converter tool).
Looking forward to see you all.

- Edit Patrol is now available on English Wikipedia and all wikis!
- We invite you to check out a demonstration of the feature and explore more on our project page. If you have tried the feature, we would appreciate any feedback on our discussion page, or your thoughts in response any of the following questions:
- What changes or additions would make this feature more useful to you?
- Would you be interested in using this feature to patrol multiple language wikis at once?
- The feature is currently available to users with rollback rights: would you like to see this feature evolve into something that is available to a broader user group?

Add apihighlimits to GR
[edit]Hi all, I am suggesting to add apihighlimits to the GR-set. Steward EPIC suggested to discuss this addition here.
The idea came up in this discussion, because many Global Rollbackers use tools and scripts to fight spam and vandalism which need to use the API. Global rollbackers are highly trusted users who mostly use scripts, so in my opinion there is enough trust and a valid usecase for all GRs.

- Support as I have alread mentioned at SRGP --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:32, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Principle of least privilege. As far as I can see, only two non-bot accounts have been granted this right upon request (WikiBayer and DannyS712; see [1]). All other requests for this right were based on misunderstandings. To date, there is no demonstrated need for all rollbackers to have this right. Individuals with a demonstrated need can still request it via SRGP. Count Count (talk) 10:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I think that the "principle of least privilege" does not apply here, as this is only technical. This right is also not a rare one. At least locally, all sysops have this right. 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 14:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see this causing any problems, and on the contrary can be quite useful. It won't make a huge difference to the work they do, but I've had times when I used tools/scripts that would likely hit the limit. Support--BRP ever 14:44, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Neutral As one of the two users who made a request for the right I cannot really oppose other GRs having access to it, but at the same time I don't think this has been an issue enough to just grant it to everyone - there is a small risk that this comes with (that I'm not disclosing per BEANS) and while GRs are trusted if they don't actively need the right why grant it? --DannyS712 (talk) 19:50, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support. This would be useful for say, when you are using a mass rollback script such as Selective Rollback and other anti-vandalism scripts that can require more than what API limits can handle. Codename Noreste 🤔 La Suma 04:27, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Not globally needed with the right. If you need the right, then apply for it. Better it have a gentle level of overview. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't mind either way here - I don't expect that the few GRs who need this access would have any issues separately requesting it, and I can understand how it goes slightly beyond the usual scope of rights for GR. – Ajraddatz (talk) 04:58, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
