I find the moving sitenotice going way to fast, distracting and hard on the eyes. Bawolff 22:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The last sitenotices where "closeable", this one isn't. Rather annoying, especially with the moving text. NielsF 23:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's currently
scrolldelay="20 scrollamount="2"
No idea what this ought to be, but I'd suggest doubling or trebling scrolldelay at the very least. Shimgray 23:11, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Where's that specified? Haven't been able to find my way through the setup. NielsF 23:22, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

it's distracting! it's ugly! it's annoying! it's tasteless! it's useless!

Can't we use something that is a bit less annoying? Something that at least doesn't scroll? Bogdan 23:23, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia/Wikimedia

[edit]

Why does the English one still say 'Wikipedia' when displayed on Commons & Meta when here (on this page only) it says 'Wikimedia'? English Wikibooks has 'Wikimedia'. Not sure how to fix this.... --pfctdayelise 14:02, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

At least on svwp, and it took all of the categories with it... They are missing and the links say $progress etc. Just look at any page on svwp. /Grillo 11:00, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

One suggestion, one plea

[edit]

Hello all,
it would be great if there was a link to Fundraising_2007/Text_for_sitenotice from the untranslated sitenotice so all people can find the translation site...
It would also be great if all those centralnotice-meter could be created, some are really waiting long :(
Thanks for Your attention, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:50, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Centralnotice-counter and Centralnotice-donate exceed the page margin

[edit]

Hello,

since today (November 24, 2007) the texts of Centralnotice-counter and Centralnotice-donate exceed the right page margin, though the text hasn't been changed. I saw it in Upper Sorbian, Lower Sorbian and Esperanto Wikipedias. Please correct it. Kind regards, --Michawiki 09:59, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I first saw the problem in eo too, but I can't reproduce it anymore, can You please provide screenshots, thanks in advance, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:14, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello Spacebirdy, the issue is solved. May be anybody defined in the meantime a fixed space to the page margin but the text should be aligned right because in other languages than English the text can be longer than the English one. Regards, --Michawiki 12:51, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Anybody plays with the Sitenotice but doesn't know what he is doing. The text exceeds the page margin again. --Michawiki 18:17, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hm, yes, MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template has been changed, but we can't find the bug, please could You make a screenshot for us, thanks in advance, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:21, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Spacebirdy, I don't know why you need screenshots. Don't you see this error on the sites? But I made 2 screenshots of dewp and this talk page with Lower Sorbian interface:
German Wikipedia
This Sitenotice page in Lower Sorbian

The text of the counter is cutted off and in the donate button is the button itself cutted off only because the text is shorter and centered. Regards, --Michawiki 19:33, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks I left User:AmiDaniel a message, because he did the last modifications, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:35, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Spacebirdy, in the MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template is a line for text layout (below anywhere). There is an entry for fundraiser-counter with text-align:right and whitespace: nowrap. Why whitespace:nowrap? AFAIK text-align:right already results in beginning the text right. Nowrap is superfluous. May be that is why the text continues beyond the page margin. Regards, --Michawiki 20:07, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Michawiki: What screen resolution are you using? What browser are you using? I'm unable to reproduce the error, but am assuming that you are on a resolution of 800x600px or less and using Internet Explorer. To clarify, certain sections have been nowrapped and widened to prevent the atrocious line breaking that was happening before, which led to the banner occupying as much as 6 to 8 rows, as opposed to the current 4. While the fonts and size of the banner should scale according to your resolution, it may fail to scale according on certain browsers and at certain sizes. Let me reduce the width a little and see if this helps. Btw, whitespace: nowrap; and text-align: right; are by no means redundant, and both are necessary. AmiDaniel 01:53, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I believe I've now fixed all the issues regarding this. Thanks for reporting the problem, and please let us know if you experience similar bugs. AmiDaniel 02:28, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ami. What did the issue cause? Now it's OK again. I didn't see such a bad line breaking, you mentioned, before. BTW, my browser is SeaMonkey and I use a resolution of 1024 x 768. Nevertheless, I'm sure that there are really some users who have the resolution 800 x 600 and use IE, they should be taken into consideration as well. Besides Spacebirdy wrote yesterday that he saw the error in eowp as well. In the meanwhile (yesterday afternoon) somebody reverted your modifications (AFAIK it was Pathoschild. -- The text should be aligned right and begin at the page margin and may not be beyond the page margin, regardless of resolution and browser. If the text is longer or bigger it should be moved inwards to left (rtl to right), there seems to be enough free space. BTW I saw it yesterday evening in Hebrew Wikipedia as well, on the left side of course, because Hebrew is a rtl language. Kind regards, --Michawiki 08:44, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
The issue you experienced was caused by increasing the width of the template, which was necessary to avoid the horrible line breaking that, while you may not have noticed it, was happening and turning the thing into a hideous muck for many of our users. When Pathoschild reverted this, it fixed the one issue, but reintroduced the other problems, which is why it was reverted back. To correct it, I scaled down a few fonts and adjust widths and heights, such that it looks reasonably well in 800x600 with standard fonts. I've also restricted the width of the template to the screen size, such that the text will wrap if, and only if, the user's resolution is low enough / the user's font size is wide enough to cause it to extend beyond the width of the screen otherwise. I've tested it on as many configurations as I can, and have had others test it on more configurations, including IE and SeaMonkey at 800x600, and none has presented any further problems. I apologize for the difficulties -- unfortunately, it's just the way of the world that fixing one thing breaks another :) AmiDaniel 16:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello Ami. My god, I got into sweat when I read your reply. :-) It reads streneously. But never mind, already the Old Romans said "Errare humanum est" (btw, their abbreviation is the German word "Ehe" (= marriage) ;-). The task of Wikimedia and Wikpedia and all other Wiki projects is impart knowledge and you got some new knowledge about layouting by CSS now :-). Sometimes layouting is like a game of chance. Kind regards, --Michawiki 17:27, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent

[edit]

Why is it shown different numbers between the bar and the centralnotice? ~Rex••talk•• 11:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

This has been brought up many, many, many times before. The image for the progress bar is generated by a different module and at different rates than that which generates the text. In addition, the text and progress bar are cached differently, both server-side and client-side. As such, discrepancies between the two are certainly to be expected. Thank you. I did a minor correction on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Centralnotice-counter/cbk-zam Can you please update it? It should be $1 maga persona ya quien ya dona and not $1 personas ya que ya dona. Sorry for the little trouble. Also can you help me create the meter bar http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Centralnotice-meter/cbk-zam&action=edit with the text "maga persona ya quien ya dona" ? Thanks. --Weekeejames 05:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
