Wiki For Climate Change 2023: Right to a Healthy Environment - Maghreb region

The main objective of this project is to contribute to increasing the number of active users in the Maghreb in Wikimedia projects by encouraging new users to participate in highlighting issues related to the right to a healthy environment by participating in Wikimedia projects in local or international languages, mainly Arabic, Moroccan derja, Tachelhit, Shawiya, Kabyle, in Wikipedias, Wiktionaries, Wikidata, and Campaign Maghreb Environment on Wikimedia Commons.

Contest on Wikimedia Commons, start at 8 June , End 22 June

Note that this is the first time that such an important joint initiative has been organized in the Maghreb, where there are several linguistic and cultural communities and several projects.

The project will focus on building the capacity of new users and improving their knowledge of climate change and the right to a healthy environment through training workshops and Editathons, which will be done in partnership with local groups and personal initiatives working on environmental rights: teachers, university students, Wikipedians, Wiktionnarists, photographers, etc.

We believe that global warming has a significant impact on the Maghreb region and that the right to a healthy environment is a top priority, The main concern of this project is the lack of online content in local and international areas about pollution and environmental dangers in the Maghreb. We believe that having an advisory group provides an opportunity to first organize training and contribution activities, and then to emphasize the importance of contributors' involvement in driving future climate change decisions and informed projects.

Develop a list of targeted campaign topics and articles to be improved or created through meetings and online editing sessions. Organize capacity-building activities such as: Training new users to work on Wikimedia projects The project is dedicated to the training and contribution of Wikipedia in the Maghreb region, with all languages and Wikidata, on content related to the right to a healthy environment.

The project is dedicated to training and contributing to the Arabic and Shawiya Wiktionary projects with content related to the right to a healthy environment. The project is dedicated to training and contributions to Wikimedia Commons and LibreOffice (description of images and uploading of images). Registration of words in Wikimedia Commons and Lingualibre. Dedicated project for Libya (Partnership for training and contribution in Wikimedia and Lingualibre projects: Wiktionary, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata) (hybrid: new user group Wikimediens for Libya)

Wiktionary Contest

We anticipate that by the end of the training workshops, participants will be able to fill content gaps in thematic topics related to the right to a healthy environment in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia projects' content will be used to support articles on the effects of climate change in the Maghreb region. Participants will be able to share their knowledge and participation in the Wikimedia Commons, as well as the Wikimedia and lingualibre projects, on the issues of the right to a healthy environment. We will thank and encourage participants by providing them with gifts. Improving our group's users' abilities to pilot similar projects. Learning how to form effective partnerships. The desire to have leadership skills, for example, for a self-trained person to be a community leader.

Video and audios

  • Request for media for 2023 Video
Benghazi Climate Change Event
Photo of a participant in an interview on Mostaganem radio station this evening show: Climate Change Event

At the end of campaign we want to produce an easy to consume-voice of the participants, summary of what kind of impact that we had as a result of the campaign.

Timeline -- we need to have video from events and participants by 2-3 weeks before the end of June.

Our goal is to collect multimedia that represents the gender- and geographically- diverse communities that participate in the campaign. Please submit 2-4 minute videos that we can edit into a much shorter “impact” video at the end of the campaign.

Please upload media to where you find it comfortable and submit media to campaigns@wikimedia.org

Guidelines

[edit]

When creating videos or multimedia consider the following prompts:

  • Questions for editors and organizers:
    1. What did you contribute as part of the campaign?
    2. Why were you inspired to contribute to the campaign activities?
    3. What impact does open knowledge have on environmental or human rights issues in your context?
    4. What was exciting about this year’s edition of the Wiki for climate change 2023: Right to a Healthy Environment Campaign?
    5. What was exciting about this year’s edition of the Wiki for climate change 2023 Campaign?
  • For Organizers -- we also would appreciate recordings or photography of participants in activities during the campaign:
    1. Show participants “live” in events, whether as a screenshot of digital meetings or recording of a digital meeting
    2. Show participants in person, contributing to Wikimedia topics or conferring with each other on how to improve Wikimedia projects
    3. Show a celebration of successful contributions at your event.

Each event can submit up to two videos. Videos should be recorded in whatever language you are comfortable in. If it is a local or regional language that is hard to find translators for, please provide a transcript or captions with the video. For more widely supported international languages (i.e. French, Arabic, and Spanish) we do not need transcripts when submitting.
