Hello

I registered to Wikipedia out of interest and will to contribute to the general knowledge of Hebrew speakers. I began editing about a year ago and wrote on a wide variety of topics, according to my interests and my availability. About a month ago I was surprised to open my account as always and find an announcement that I was blocked. As I understand it, I never did anything that violates the code of wiki, and no one has ever warned me that I am doing so. I didn’t get any example of unwanted actions on my side, or any indication that I was doing any harm. I consider myself a young contributor that still has a lot to learn and improve, but under no circumstances do I see any reason for my blockage – as I said, without any warning or explanation. I contacted the bureaucrat that blocked me - Garfield – but never got any answer. I don’t think this behavior is beneficial to wiki and I ask to release my blockage. נועה של הים (talk) 17:08, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You were part of the w:he:ויקיפדיה:פרשת הטיית הצבעות ודיונים 2024 ban but your name is not mentioned there. Did you used other accounts there? If not you should have had been notified in discussion with explanation. But your edits on Hebrew Wikipedia were very weird, as you have been changing only links in the articles, and mostly not adding valuable info. Which give impression you were trying to get autoconfirmed rights to bias the Wiki for the side of them.

If you were blocked, you should have never been ignored by the administrators, have you requested anything from them afterwards? ThecentreCZ (talk) 16:35, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is yet another request for comment about the same matter as a few previous ones are trying to address. Per my current understanding of the problem it is the eternal question of whether hewiki bureaucrats overstepped their permissions with blocking a large group of editors without checkuser actions. On the other hand, I'd really like hearing from hewiki community members. @ThecentreCZ: Only checkusers are able to determine sockpuppets, other can do only behavioural analysis, which may be misleading. Secondly, users that are long-term abusers/sockpuppets are usually not listened to per various WP:DENY rules (and I'm not trying to imply that OP and hewiki group is a LTA either). So far, hewiki bureaucrats made no response to the blocked users nor here on Meta. A09|(pogovor) 20:41, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I checked Noa’s contribution, indeed she does not look like the editors who were blocked in the "Big Block". A bit of background explanation:

In Hebrew Wikipedia, decisions are made by voting. Only an editor with voting rights can vote, and to gain voting rights, the editor needs to make a certain number of edits.

In the past year and a half, a large group of right-wing editors joined, many of whom made only minor edits such as internal linking, in order to gain voting rights quickly and influence decisions. They also participated in numerous discussions on articles, where voting rights are also needed to have an impact. They were organized and came together for discussions and votes. 33 of these editors were blocked, as well as 10 left-wing editors who edited to gain voting rights.

Noa indeed made many minor edits, but also significant ones, and she hardly participated in votes and discussions, which shows that this was not her intention.

No one explained to her that minor edits over time are not well received, and it can be assumed that she acted in good faith. Indeed, minor edits over time were never considered a reason for blocking; this only started with the discovery of the large group that used this editing method to gain voting rights. Hi and thank you for your attention to my request. I have to admit I thought that even minor changes such as language editing, internal links and adding sources is a contribution to Wiki, but I also invested in larger contributions whenever I could. I hope that you will share my point of view that not many people choose to contribute their time and will to Wiki, and if the intentions are good , than with proper guidance everyone will benefit.
