Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions

edit

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:24, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

An important message

edit

Your Request for Adminship is doomed. If I were you I would withdraw it now before you are subjected to any more embarrassment. If you don't withdraw it now you will suffer the consequences of not having withdrawn it now. But if you withdraw it now you will have peace and serenity, and you will learn to stop wasting time on Wikipedia.

The choice is yours. Garwood Green (talk) 22:16, 24 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how you handle things here, but this person is a troll. Chillum (talk) 23:54, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Phabricator task-T120738 List Of Contributors

edit

Hello,

I am interested to work on the project List Of Contributors with phab task https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T120738 . I see that you endorsed the project in the community wishlist survey. It would be great help if you could share how you wish this tool should be implemented. As I am writing my proposal for the project for GSoC 2016 , I am working to make an outline to the project and a timeline for tasks to be completed. Your valuable suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks!Devikrishnan (talk) 17:52, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Plagiarism detection

edit

Hi! You voted for improving plagiarism detection as an important suggestions in the community wishlist survey last year. I'm pinging people who showed interest in that task to tell them we have some suggestions for how things could look, if you'd like to glance at them and give us some feedback. They're available here: phab:T120435#2266283. It's easiest if comments are left in Phabricator, since that's where much of the development is happening, but they can be left on Meta too, of course. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

2016 Community Wishlist Survey

edit

Hi,

You’re getting this message because you participated in the 2015 Community Wishlist Survey and we want to make sure you don't miss it this year – or at least can make the conscious choice to ignore if it you want to. The 2015 survey decided what the Community Tech team should work on during 2016. It was also the focus of Wikimedia hackathons and work by other developers. You can see the status of wishes from the 2015 wishlist at 2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Results.

The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is now open for wishes. You can create proposals until November 20. You will be able to vote on which wishes you think are best or most important between November 28 and December 12. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:17, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, could you provide me more information regarding this mentioned work-around? PS Please ping me. --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:02, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Late reply... I've look at the workaround, but unfortunately this is a very specific case where has been posisble to apply it; basically you were more interested on the "nature" of a page rather than its existence. I was looking for something more generic to check the existence of page A from page B. --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:24, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75: see Community Wishlist Survey 2021/Miscellaneous/Checking if a page exists for the revived proposal for this year, and the discussion there about the Template:Linkless exists workaround. Wbm1058 (talk) 15:49, 23 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Community Wishlist Survey

edit

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:25, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey

This is probably of interest to you.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Global/2020-10#Global_lock_for_sockpuppets_of_Jack_B_Williamson

Do you think Newslinger successfully deceived that Steward into thinking there is actually any confirmation of a link between MickMacNee and Brian K Horton? Because there certainly isn't any to be found in there.

How much trouble could Newslinger be in, do you reckon? Because this surely isn't just a mistake, or a clerical error, he had to know what he was doing. As far as anyone knows, other than Newslinger spreading rumours that he apparently obtained from Poetlister at Wikipediocracy, Mick is an entirely innocent editor, who could and should be allowed to appeal his ArbCom site ban. Something the lock doesn't prevent, but complicates somewhat. Connor Cheeseman (talk) 20:16, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
