Fundraising translation feedback

edit

Hey Tar Lócesilion,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Polish using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Help with Polish translations

edit

Hi Tar Lócesilion , I am contacting you as I would highly appreciate your help to translate and proofread three short texts from English to Polish for WMF's multilingual fundraising campaign that will be starting in two weeks. I kindly ask you to go onto the Fundraising Translation Hub https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising/Translation, and click on the three texts available for translation. All of these three texts need proofreading in order to be sure we have quality translations. Please check the review button as you work yourself through the texts. I would be most grateful if you would spread this message and ask fellow English/Polish Wikipedians to do the same. Please reach out to me by email, [email protected] if you have any questions. A warm thank you in advance. Kind regards, Jrobell (talk) 14:55, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

re:

Hi there, and thanks for sending me that note! So I'll tell you what I know (I'd like to comment more widely but there are some links I'd need to find first). In the meanwhile, you will find useful information at these links I grouped on Meta for everybody's convenience. I strongly recommend for example that you read minutes and slides from the 2 latest Editing (formerly VE) team quarterly reviews (the last one features a slide showing an interesting adoption rate of VE at your Wikipedia), as well as the last logs from office hours with James F. You'll also see find dashboards about VE usage on pl.wp, and ongoing/suggested research to be done for VE. So, research. That depends on how much the Analytics team can support the Editing team, and as James F. stated some days ago during the last quarterly review of VE, that is a "Principal area of concern; still waiting on resource availability". The team's interest in this was also confirmed in the previous quarterly review. The good news there is that the new WMF Executive Director, Lila Tretikov, definitely wants all the products to be supported by more research, so I am confident that we should see new things on that front ASAP. I've seen you editing pl.wp relevant Mediawiki pages and bug 52162. I can ask James F. his ideas about the other points and planned work, but I think it would be great if you could do that instead: how about coming to the office hour on IRC this Saturday at 6pm UTC? I'm looking forward to continuing this discussion with you, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 12:14, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Some kind of research does not really need hundreds or thousands of participants, quite the contrary (it's something else than just asking feedback, mind you :) ) But you can see that team's work at mw:Design/Research, and opt-in for future research. As for future plans for VE, I often link to James' presentation at Wikimania 2014, and to the roadmap for a sense of work which is being done now or is really in the pipeline. So glad you're coming on Saturday! \o/ --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:59, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
That's an interesting point, please go ahead and just ask her ;) (I'm looking for a better way to continue this conversation with you. I hope to find time to send you an email or something, maybe after the office hour if you'll still have doubts left.) --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:02, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the link and for your efforts: I'll keep following that page. My first comment about it would be, you might have collected more interesting/different feedback if you had added a request like can you please test VE now, and show us the diff? What weren't you able to do? What would you like to do with VE that you can't?. The initial responses prove that several users actually don't know what VE is like today, and it is a very, very different product from what it was in summer 2013... How many of them actually know that for example you can start editing in VE and then switch to wikitext editing without losing the changes? As an experienced user, I find that a valuable "feature", for example. Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 13:14, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re: "Wikimedii"

edit

Przesyłam pozdrowienia, Pzwolinski (talk) 08:29, 17 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Dziękuję za wyczerpującą odpowiedź i dyskusję. Zmieniła ona moje spojrzenie na całą ideę tłumaczeń. Oczywiście wezmę te wskazówki pod uwagę. Pozdrawiam, Pzwolinski (talk) 20:16, 17 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

You’re getting this message because you participated in the 2015 Community Wishlist Survey and we want to make sure you don't miss it this year – or at least can make the conscious choice to ignore if it you want to. The 2015 survey decided what the Community Tech team should work on during 2016. It was also the focus of Wikimedia hackathons and work by other developers. You can see the status of wishes from the 2015 wishlist at 2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Results.

The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is now open for wishes. You can create proposals until November 20. Tech ambassadors, "take two"

edit

Hello tech ambassador! This month has seen a good influx of new faces in this crew \o/ , so it is time to reactivate our conversations. Now that we have a pretty good coverage of so many different projects, here are some topics for your consideration.

  1. Are there further thoughts on the role itself? I hope the questions available on Meta can help spark them. Please weigh in at Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#Tech ambassadors, take 2.
  2. How about we try and organise future collective work in a Phabricator workboard? Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#A Phab workboard for us? has all the details to explore this proposal.
  3. Finally, you are also welcome to comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T177923, should you happen to have suggestions for the Community Liaisons team, currently wondering how to measure "Wiki projects requesting beta features and other early deployments".

We hope to be able to host a live discussion in early 2018; until then, we're looking forward to hearing from you on Meta! All the best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk), on behalf of the Community Liaisons

Getting started on Phabricator

edit

Greetings, ambassador!

As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.

For the time being, I'm just asking that you please add your Phabricator nickname next to your name in the ambassadors' table (you can create an account now if you don't have one already). I will send you further information soon! Thanks for your patience as we get to the operational stage of this effort :) Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:54, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

New Tech Ambassadors Phabricator board

edit

Hello!

You have listed yourself as an active Tech Ambassador, thank you for that!

We have recently set up a board on Phabricator so that you can learn about tasks and updates that are potentially interesting for your community, and take action when necessary. During the pilot phase we are currently in, to avoid confusion, only Wikimedia Foundation's Community Liaisons will mark tasks so that they end up in the various columns. Thanks for your understanding!

Please follow this Phabricator board (learn how to). You'll receive "notifications" for updates in all tasks listed there. In case you choose to receive them as email; we currently expect the volume to be fairly low, but in any case you can learn how to manage it.

If you have any feedback about this board, please leave your questions and comments on the Ambassadors talk page.

Do you use any tools other than Special:RecentChanges or Special:Watchlist that take advantage of ORES? Do you know of any other tools that are used to patrol that do not use ORES? Help wanted for global templates

edit

You have shown support for global templates in the past. Staff of the Wikimedia Foundation view this change as big. We need to convince the Wikimedia Foundation to start working on this. We have to reassure them there is sufficient support by local project communities.

You can help move this forward.

Please do setup a page on the local projects you are (most) active on in the language of the project. Tell your fellow editors why you believe global templates are necessary. Follow the local project decision process to come to a discussion outcome as support or not. There is plenty of time for discussion. Please reach a conclusion before the end of April 2021.

Please translate the coordinating page on meta to languages you are proficient in. Gathering_support_from_local_projects_for_global_templates

Please add a line to this meta page with a link to a discussion page on your local project(s).

The goal is to have the Wikimedia Foundation include a program to develop infrastructure for global templates in their 2021/2022 Annual Plan. The Wikimedia Foundation will decide on the Annual Plan in May/June this year.

The aim is to have several dozen local project communities to show support, and little concerns, issues or objections. Of course, any project can continue to use their local templates.

When you have questions about this initiative you can reach me at ad huikeshoven.org or 31 6 40293574, and also on Telegram and Signal. You can also raise questions on the talk page on meta. Maybe some people would like to discuss this initiative in a meeting. Please let me know whether you would like to join a Zoom meeting in February.

Regards,

Ad Huikeshoven (talk) 15:42, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
