How to deal with Poles

edit

A prank card prepared by the IRC internet personality Mareklug, featuring the "Tea Who You Yeah Bunny" greeting (obverse).

A prank card prepared by the IRC internet personality Mareklug, featuring Mareklug in action (reverse). Mareklug is a Pole who knows how to deal with Poles, and as a(n ostracized) Pole, is hip to the Polish Cabal six ways to Kansas.

Speaking frankly I cannot believe a long-term established wikipedian like you is self-promoting himself on at least four different wikis, please refrain before destroying your online reputation. --Vituzzu (talk) 16:41, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ah. I did not perceive this as the tabu you speak of, self-promotion. There is method to my madness. The counterfeit Canada Goose parkas need exposure, and I am doing just that. But for some reason, I hit a wall over here. Given that, allow me to quote The Who: "don't give a damn about my reputation". :) Sometimes you have to be unpopular or even misunderstood. And I am utterly baffled why you folks don't see that the images, added to that humor page, are both on-topic and enhance the humor page. I suppose you just cannot get over your blinders. It's a cultural tabu thing biting us in the ass. Regards, --Mareklug (talk) 16:46, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Being unpopular doesn't mean "becoming a spammer", does it? --Vituzzu (talk) 16:53, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
It is not spam. It is addition of content, where I see it as fit. a) on this humor page about Poles, clearly on-topic, on wikimedia commons -- media, where else? clearly on-topic. On pl wiki, because I felt like writing up about it on my home wiki, exercising my Polish native tonuge. I have been maligned there by some as not having the language chops to produce correct style. SO think, dear friend, before you accuse. --Mareklug (talk) 16:55, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
And you're wrong. You already learnt is always a good practice avoiding writing about oneself. --Vituzzu (talk) 17:01, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • refactored/fixed:

It is not spam. It is addition of content, where I see it as fitting. a) on the humor page about Poles, it is clearly on-topic -- the images were placed in the context they belong; on wikimedia commons -- media to be used by WMF projects, where else? Clearly on-topic there (plus I sounded out #wikimedia-commons before I did). On pl wiki, because I felt like writing it up on my home wiki, exercising my Polish native tongue. I have been maligned there by some as not having the language chops to produce correct style, and one ancient user, ironically enough, himself a Polish immigrant to America, called me derogatorily an American, not a Pole, in discussion on wikipedia. He was not disciplined. So think, dear friend, before you accuse. I am quickly losing my illusion that people with lofty titles such as steward, chair of a national Wikimedia Foundation, sysop, bureaucrat, what have you -- necessarily signify a person of erudition and open mind. This is making me rethink the efficacy of my continuing involvement with the entire community. I am saddened over this. --Mareklug (talk) 16:55, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your feelings must be respected but still the encyclopaedia must take precedence over them. We are here to write an affordable encyclopaedia not to make people happy of their "profiles". Feel free to think that's a big plot or an abuse but it's simply the implementation of some of the very basic principles which makes an encyclopedia out of this website. --Vituzzu (talk) 17:11, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
You operate with platitudes, my dear Vito. Where is the solid, friendly, thinking Vito of IRC and our past interactions? You are using language spuriously, imprecisely, without thought or consideration for meaning: You wrote, Your feelings must be respected and then proceed to disrespectful actions unbecoming a steward: calling me a spammer, removing PERTINENT HUMOR from A HUMOR PAGE, protecting that page as needing protection because excessive spamming is going on (a frigging edit war is going on, sir, not spamming).
Per evidence, you do not respect my feelings at all, and you obviously no longer afford me the requisite respect I deserve. You are misunderstanding what self-promotion is. If I wanted to self-promote, I would post a page about Marek's Editing for Hire, or at least A Small Garlic Press where I am president and editor-in-chief for 20 years. Or my own BLP as scientist, poet, translator published by TriQuarterly, UPenn's Cross Connect literary journal, Norton Books in Joanna Trzeciak's "Miracle Fair", and used by w:Katarzyna Ewa Zdanowicz to render her mordant verse in idiomatic American English. But I only added on-topic illustrative graphics and their descriptions -- HUMOR -- to a pertinent HUMOR PAGE. And that has made me lose my internet reputation by becoming a self-promoting spammer? Ha ha ha ha.
In overacting here you have become a debacle of a steward, an embarrassment to Wikimedia Foundation, my dear Vito, my dear ex-friend. "15 minutes with you, oh I wouldn't say no..." :/
Had User:odder not removed my contributions to How to deal with Poles for no good cause, no defensible edit that, unless he meant to facilitate his Wikimedia Commons deletion request of these, and obviously, if they were being used on an WMF project, they could not be deleted... talk about odder's COI as a sysop and bureaucrat -- how unethical of him -- while at the same time turning overnight from a cooperating friend on #wikimedia-commons and in our private messaging (unedited copy-and-paste available on request) into a peculiar schizo version of w:Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, a vituperative, closed-minded, unjust, petty abuser of his newly attained powers as Wikimedia Commons bureaucrat -- odder being the very person who told me how to upload these images in the first place, the ones he next day lists to be deleted! -- none of this would have happened, and my innocuous on-topic additions -- funny ones, too -- to the HUMOR PAGE on META would have flown under your radar. None of you defenders of Wiki, Encyclopedia, and the UNESCO Way would have piled on.
Had Sue Gardner or Jimbo Wales witnessed this calamity -- a frigging edit war over additions to a HUMOR PAGE on meta wiki -- they would have made arrangements to exit WMF for greener pastures.
Vito, please wake up and revert yourself. This debacle is exactly how the best people are driven from the Community. Warmly, --Mareklug (talk) 10:03, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Rediry na projektach WMF

edit

User:Tar salceson i dojdzie. :) Zdrufko, --Mareklug (talk) 13:48, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
--Mareklug (talk) 07:12, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support

edit

Hello. You are receiving this message because you kindly helped with affiliates-related translations in the past. The movement needs you again! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help keen translators like you figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome. While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :)

Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:19, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
