Wrong link
editTried to join the event today. The link is for a meeting from 7/1. @Mverde-WMF, FPutz (WMF), and AMarino-WMF:. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

- Ooof sorry about that. I'm still getting the hang of all this. Will triple check for August! As of August our calls will also be recorded so hopefully if I mess up again you'll still be able to re-watch..but in an ideal world I won't mess up! FPutz (WMF) (talk) 20:23, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict.) It's been brought to my attention that there's another link on another page with a different time, seemingly for the same event, but this page was never updated. I tried joining another of these meetings last month, but it was canceled without notice. A friendly reminder that for members of the community who may be interested to attend, meetings like this often mean taking time out of work to learn about or discuss something of personal interest. Scheduling problems with community-facing events have different consequences from scheduling problems of internal-only events. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:24, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Indeed this is the problem and it's been causing me a lot of grief precisely because it is confusing people and causing the calls to seem inaccessible, when this is the last thing that I want. In the topic below with Mhawk10 I explain the issue. Would be very grateful if one of you could help me resolve this. FPutz (WMF) (talk) 20:28, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Proposed merge to Public policy/Conversation hours and Events
editHello! I've started a merge discussion because this page seems to be a partial duplicate of Public policy/Conversation hours and Events. Today, there was a public policy meeting, but the times specified for the meeting were different on the two pages; they were listed as being at 16:00 EDT on this page, but they were listed as being at 13:00 EDT on the merge target.
Rather than maintaining two separate pages that need to be manually updated, it makes more sense to have one central page where the updates will occur. This way, people will be able to attend public meetings in the future without confusion about the correct time proceeding from out-of-sync pages. Mhawk10 (talk) 20:21, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Mhawk10 you are the answer to my problems!!! Someone mentioned that they were being directed to an old page but I could not figure out why. This page is the one I want to be the ONLY one: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Public_policy/Conversation_hours_and_Events
- Can you help me make this happen with the merge you suggested??
- THANK YOU!!!!! FPutz (WMF) (talk) 20:25, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! I've made an edit to the Public policy/Events page so that it will now redirect to the Public policy/Conversation hours and Events page. Mhawk10 (talk) 20:32, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- @FPutz (WMF): Just as a heads up, the link to the old page was posted on a few noticeboards, including those of the Wikimedia United States Coalition, the Wikimedians of North American Indigenous Languages User Group, and the Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network. The users Pharos, Phoebe, and Sm8900 also received the incorrect link. It looks like the template that was used to notify (some?) groups and people linked to the old page rather than the new one. - Thank you so much for taking the time to catch this, explain it to me, track who was impacted, and help me resolve it. This was an incredibly kind and generous way to use your time. FPutz (WMF) (talk) 20:51, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- @FPutz (WMF): My pleasure! Please feel free to reach out in the future over email or through a message on my talk page if you'd like any help with anything else like this in the future. Mhawk10 (talk) 21:11, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, I absolutely will take you up on that offer! FPutz (WMF) (talk) 21:14, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
