Hi! I would like to apply for Global rollback flag. I've spent last few months as a member of the SWMT, monitoring small wikis and undoing spam and vandalism. Now that the summer has ended, I will start using SWViewer again in my work. I've been active in cross-wiki monitoring work for some time and already posses a rollback flag on some projects. GR flag would be a great help to me. --Nadzik (talk) 07:21, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Global rollback for Teles

Hi, folks! I am a former global rollbacker/sysop and had the flags removed when I became a Steward back in 2012. Day by day, I am returning from a partial wikibreak and wouldn’t ask for this permission, but I recently got to know about the swviewer and just find that amazing. I am using it on my mobile combining with IRC patrolling. It’s my new favorite pastime. It requires rollbacker access to work better, so I feel like I would benefit from that. Thanks in advance! Be safe!—Teles «Talk to me ˱C L @ S˲» 22:53, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

Global sysop for DannyS712

Not ending before 1 September 2020 08:01 UTC

Hi. I'm requesting GS to be able to better deal with LTAs and spambots. I am a global rollbacker, and am active in cross-wiki counter vandalism and RC patrol. I hold sysop rights on multiple wikis, and am familiar with the toolset. I have reviewed Global sysops and am familiar with the policy. I will be sure to defer to more experienced GS and stewards when in doubt. I'm happy to answer any questions. I can confirm that I have 2FA enabled. I feel unease about this request and recommend against granting it, at least for now. Actions have consequences. You should've though of them before vandalizing a wiki in the middle of a crisis. Global IP block exempt for Bieraaa

Hi, I would like to request for a global IP block exemption on Wikimedia Projects. Due to the Internet censorship in China, most Wikimedia Projects are blocked or seriously degraded, necessitates the use of a proxy, VPN, or Tor. Currently, at Chinese Wikipedia, I already have a local IP block exemption (granted since 2015, expired and renewed in 2020), with an established track record of editing history and never abused my privilege. Nevertheless, the global block still prevents me from editing via a proxy at Wikidata (for linking articles between languages), Wikicommons (for uploading images), or the English Wikipedia (When translating articles from English, I often discover inaccurate citations I'd like to correct at its source).

It's cumbersome to apply for local exemptions at individual sites. It would be helpful if a global IP block exemption could be granted, thanks, --Bieraaa (talk) 16:05, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Bieraaa,   Done. You should be aware though, that in some situations you might still need to request local IPBE as global one only exempts you from the global blocks and not from the local ones. --Base (talk) 05:56, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi everyone, I'm Superpes15, I'm a rollbacker on wikidata and a sysop on it.wiki. I'm also a x-wiki patroller. As a patroller and administrator I have often dealt with users with inappropriate usernames. I've read several policies on inappropriate usernames and I think the itwiki policy is one of the most rigid (but effective against vandalism). I've read and understood the global rename policy and the global renamers policy and I think (and hope) that I can help out with renaming. Obviously, in case of doubt, I would always turn to the most experienced. Thanks for your comments and for attention. --Superpes15 (talk) 16:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi everyone, I'm A from Vietnamese Wikipedia. I'd like to help out the global and local renaming processing by requesting for the global renamer right. I am an OTRS member as well as an eliminator on the Vietnamese Wikipedia, a user group that does not exist in many Wikipedias but has the right to make certain admin actions. The main reason I am requesting this right is because there's currently a lack of global renamers on vi.wiki, since both global renamers are busy with their personal lives and are currently on Wikibreak. There're currently some requests that have not been approved for weeks. With this right, I would help reduce the local and global rename backlog. I believe I should have these rights as it is a step forward in the process of becoming a respected member of the community. I will put hard work into the process, and taking breaks when needed. • In case it isn't clear, Wikimedia projects have a very different culture than most workplaces. Striving to get the biggest hats (userrights) is often looked down upon, and for good reason. We're here to collate and curate free knowledge, not improve personal standing. Rights are given to people whose work requires it, and who are trusted by their community with those userrights. It isn't a form of promotion or path to an ultimate end, other than the ultimate end of the sum of all human knowledge. Regards, Vermont (talk) 10:56, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Is there an ongoing discussion somewhere about offering the option to all users, or at least extended confirmed? Thanks, MrAureliusR (talk) 05:34, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

MrAureliusR,   Done, please make sure not to lose the scratch codes. Re ongoing discussion, I am not sure, there should be a Phabricator ticket about it. The main concern is that people sometimes do lose access when both their authentification device and their scratch codes are lost, this then requires manual verification of their identity by the Trust and Safety team as well as a manual removal of 2FA via shell script by a system administrator. This process does not scale quite well if the number of people who have 2FA, and thus inevitably the number of people who lose access, increase substantially. --Base (talk) 05:44, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough, that makes sense if issues need to be handled manually. I will check Phabricator. And thanks for approving my request! MrAureliusR (talk) 05:46, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Base and MrAureliusR: see T166622. Thanks --Alaa :)..! 12:06, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

  • Sorry for the bother. Obviously things have been a little hectic lately. I should have taken the care to resign when it became apparent my time was more limited. GMGtalk 17:37, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

New wikis importer for Sotiale

Hello! I'd like to propose that Sotiale be addded as a new wikis importer to support our small team. As a sysop on BetaWikiversity and Incubator, Sotiale is already well-acquainted with the creation process of new wikis. Thanks to his experience with numerous other permissions, I am sure Sotiale will also be able to execute this task impeccably. --MF-W 22:43, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Sincerely thank you for your nomination. I accept the nomination! --Sotiale (talk) 22:53, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I usually look the other page. For example, if Sotiale resigns from stewardship in the future, such as MF-Warburg, can register this right automatically. --Uncitoyentalk 14:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Abuse filter helper for Pseudo Classes

Hiya! I'd like to apply for abuse filter helper, because I often view the private abuse filters to understand the settings. As the former rollbacker in zhwiki, I think I've gained a lot of experience in using these rights over the months. Pseudo Classes (talk) 16:53, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

How can you view the private filters when viewing them require a special right, like Abuse filter helper? Also, how did being a rollbacker help you with abuse filters? For what will you use the rights? --MF-W 21:14, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
zh:Special:ListGroupRights says rollbackers have abusefilter-view-private and abusefilter-log-private rights. PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:47, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
I think MF-W's question needs to be answered. @Pseudo Classes: for what will you use the rights?--evrifaessa ❯❯❯ talk 07:15, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
@MF-Warburg and Evrifaessa: I can detect what can be modified and optimized in abuse filters, and report it to administrators for correction. Pseudo Classes (talk) 00:34, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Pseudo Classes, could you provide examples of such correction requests you have done? --Base (talk) 21:48, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Sorry, but without the ability to make any changes to filters on any wikis I don't see a clear need for the right to see private filters, which can deal with fairly sensitive content. --DannyS712 (talk) 18:55, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
  • I think more information is needed here. You often view the private filters to understand the settings, in what context? Are you trying to improve other filters? Are there specific projects you want to look at? – Ajraddatz (talk) 05:23, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose At this time as no justification was given, though the answer to Ajr's question above could very well change my !vote. --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:08, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Not done. No replies to questions and there's no consensus to grant. You are welcome to re-request it in the future, if you think objections above have been solved. Matiia (talk) 18:38, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
