Hi hi, I just watched! Thank you for playing! Cassie is definitely a more experimental game for me. It's mainly about interpretation, so how ever you feel it meant is right <3. I also agree that it's weird for young Cassandra to have so many suitors lolol don't worry. I wanted to detail a young woman set back in time who wanted to be free from her expectations. Some interpret the story as self love, though a more fantastical element to me is also fun. If you enjoy I hope you'll give my other games a shot! (This one is my shortest as it was made for O2A2 jam)
Hi, I've really enjoyed your game and I want to ask if you allow me to translate it in french. You can contact me at: [email protected]
So kind of you to offer! Will def keep this in mind! So glad you enjoyed this little game <3
I definitely got the Narcissus reference right away. Very pretty art! And I definitely sympathized with her story. One thing I would have liked is if we could have actually seen the reflection appear in the water.
Yes more Narcissus enjoyers! I actually didn't want to include the reflection for ambiguity sake, as the story is purposefully left open ended and up to interpretation <3 I appreciate you saying so though! Cassandra is just too gorgeous ;_;
So cute and reflective! <3 <3 <3
I wish we could've seen more of the Cassie/Cassandra sprite because she is so pretty/adorable, but overall it was very tastefully executed <3 So cute!!! <3 And the music was lovely <3
Have to agree, more Cassandra is better! I'm glad you enjoyed Cat ;_;
It's really interesting how many games this year pull from Greek mythology, but I'm glad they did because it produced gems like this. :) Had a real fun time with it. You and the team did great work! <3
it was a VERY weird coincidence, but I hope to do it again next year for Queer 02A2! Awww this is so sweet of you to say this! I appreciate you taking the time to not only play, but leave such kind words <3
Butter loves your take on the societal pressure on women to get married, more so in the context of their time period, more so with how important beauty was! But also!!! I just realized the ending and finally remembered this was Greek myth and AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OMG THE REFERENCES ARE NOW JUST DAWNING ON ME!!!!
Like the protagonist being named after Cassandra! The tragic woman so loved by Apollo because of her beauty and then was gifted the gift of Prophecy but cursed to never be believed thus furthering her isolation! Like how the protag feels here!!! AAAHHHHHHH
And then when both Cassandra/Cassie utter the same words, mirroring Echo AAAHHHHHHHHHH
I LOVE THE COMBINED ASSOCIATIONS AND THE HAPPY TRAGEDY!!!! LIKE SHE STILL DIES I GUESS BUT UT WAS A HAPPY DEATH TO HER OMG??? LIKE IT'S STILL TRAGEDY BUT PARADOXICCALLY A HAPPY END FOR HER??? (Considering her alternatives of course, I do personally wished for her to live, but this is Greek myth, and Greek myth gets all extreme with the parallels in their poetic ironies and all)
BUT ASDFGHJKL!?!?! BUTTER LOVES THIS
(I don't know if there were anymore I missed, more so with the mentioned carpenter, but aaahhh that was what I remembered while playing haha)
Flower imagery as well AAAHHHHHHG
Thank you for playing and leaving your detailed thoughts Butter! I love how much you caught on to! My friends are more mythology, folklore, and fantasy fans than me, but the longer I’m around y’all the more beauty I can see in it! And of course flower imagery, I can’t help myself 😅
No screenshots?
no screenshots, there aren’t enough visuals in the game itself to show- it’s for O2A2 Jam 😉
she's so pretty omggg... the whole game was also pretty tbh!! and the music is so calming... i loved the ending too, especially when she said that "just a piece is all lovers will ever need to find true eternal love". the cutest T__T
thank you for this game!!
thank you for saying so! And for playing of course! I also love the ending- I worried it would have been too sad but to me it’s a very hopeful/positive thing 💕
This was positively breathtaking! What a gorgeous story -- and a gorgeous experience overall. Right from the beginning, with the quiet peacefulness of the BG that made my whole being practically melt into the screen upon sight, and then the music GODDDDD. THE MUSIC IS LITERALLY WONDROUS. I feel so absolutely at peace with everything while listening to it lakdjfalkds and I want to join Cassandra there in that quaint little spot of peace in the woods 😭💕
This was also just SUCH a unique spin on the story? I admit I don't know all the specifics behind the tale of Narcissus. Just kind of the general vibes. But I found this to be so incredibly touching in how you approached it from an entirely different angle. I think this can also speak so much to like... so many people in general. There are a lot of people out there (myself included) that have such a difficult time loving themselves. That don't think they deserve to be loved. That don't think they deserve anything. That don't treat themselves even the way they think others should be treated. And reading this was somehow very sweet. Like. That Cassandra could find this love with herself before needing to subject herself to the whims of others and an obligatory love that society has pushed on her. I really liked this as a way to show that we need to love ourselves first before we can love and be happy???? (maybe lakdjfad I could also be just completely rambling nonsense right now)
BUT I DIGRESS.
Just really loved this. I feel so... I don't know... at peace now... having played that and just sitting here listening to the music continue for a while longer. A beautiful and touching little moment that will live in my heart for a while to come 💕
I'm glad you found this game comforting Carrot! Reading such kind words from an incredibly talented dev always makes me so happy ;_; The music is literally perfection, it was based almost entirely on the background piece so I love that they feed into each other in that way!
The Narcissus tale is a wild one (but what Greek tales aren't?) I always found something fascinating and beautiful about the tale, I mean it involved flowers so that part alone got me lolol.
I loved hearing your interpretation of the tale~! I do think you aren't just rambling you got what I was going for.
I'm so glad I could have any impact on your mood Carrot (in a positive way that is) Thank you so much for not only playing but detailing your thoughts! This comment will also live in my heart for a while to come! <3
Absolutely stunning. I love how the tale can be ambiguous in terms of the "lesson" of the story. It can be a story of vanity or self love, though I prefer to think of it as the latter.
As a woman, I really relate to the pressure put on looks, manners, and propriety that are overall valued more than our skills. To me, I really lean into the self love because I feel the depth of love we have for others is often determined by the respect and love we have for ourselves.
Beautiful! I love it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed and that I was able to see your thoughts in real time <3
I'm glad you bring up the themes revolving around women, as I do feel like this is a feminist story in a sense. I love hearing your thoughts about it.
Thank you for playing and leaving your thoughts!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
IT WAS GRANDIOSE!!!! AMAZING!!!!!! It might be my favourite game of Meant2Bee??????????
Okay, I am biased because I am a huge fan of the Narcissus myth, but the take this game offers? The TAKE??????????? IT LEFT ME SPEECHLESS!!!!!
(but i'm still going to talk anyway)
First and foremost: the art was gorgeous, the GUI splendid, the coding well-done and the music track phenomenal!!! It all offered a consistent yet wonderful experience!!!!!
Then... I think the game was in two parts, one questioning what love is and sending wonderful messages about self-love, and a second one being pure "mythological character gets poetically crazy" and I was here for both!!!!
The first part raised interesting points about the social norms regarding marriage: you have to marry, no matter what because, hey, what fate is worst than solitude?? And if others don't love you, are you even worth being loved? I think it was perfectly shown with Cassandra's mother, being a woman way above her husband in terms of qualities or merit, and yet, settling down with a man she never truly loves (and if you think of the conjoined norm of maternity, making the protag a woman was an amazing idea!).
The second part is Cassandra finding love with herself and THE POETRY????? I really expected you to have Cassandra see herself, have a self-love mement and be ready to give her mother her piece of her mind... BUT YOU CHOSE THE POETIC PATH!!!!! And it was amazingly written, Joy!! I can't emphasise enough how much I enjoyed this part!!!! Cassandra not realising she is facing someone else, and ending up like Narcissus in the myth, Cassie answering her, mimicking Echo in the original myth??????? And THE TWO FLOWERS!!!! THERE ARE TWO FLOWERS!!!!!!!!!! It made me scream!!!!!!!!! I think you really excelled at reproducing the feelings, the tone and the vibe of what might be dumb from an exterior point of view (I'm not roasting, even Phaedra could just be seen as a drama queen overracting because she loves her step-son defgtgrftvgb), but is hauntingly beautiful in Greek tragedies! And yet, you kept it so positive?? The duality got me!!!
Honestly, it was a WONDERFUL experience, an ASTONISHING game, and now I want to SCREAM how beautiful it is!!!!! Congrats on all the team!!!!!
YOU'RE SCREAMING? I AM SCREAMING (twins again hehe)
I was floored by this review when I read it this morning (one of the first things I experienced, and it did more for me than any cup of coffee!)
I left you speechless? That's a feat in of itself (jkjk ily)
All the art and music done for this project was perfect from the first iteration, the team saw what I was trying to do and made it a reality
This game is just like mankind, full of duality. And even I haven't decided on anything canonical. I liked both takes so much I just decided, why not have both? So the open to interpretation part, is half the experience! LMFAO GREEK PROTAG GOING LOOPY (poetically)
I am still shocked my poetic writing came across so! Especially to someone who writes so poetically, writes poems, and loves poetry! So I take this praise to heart ;_;
I was very proud of the ending, and think it sort of filters into story I write since flowers are always a part of it.
And yes! Maybe I get Greek tales, endlessly philosophizing everything, even the mundane, being wild/unhinged/shameless, and queer!
I always thought the tale of Narcissus was always beautiful in it's way, in it's tragedy there was something unspoken, and I was glad I was able to say it in my own way!
I cannot thank you enough for your kind words! You've really inspired me so much, and a lot of what makes this game great, I can trace back to you, Chime! (To making each other better creators, through the "Power of Friendship") <3 (I'M GETTING EMOTIONAL)
Now, that was a great retelling. Surrounded by the lack of true love, what other choice is there to give the love you have in yourself... to yourself? There's so much that could be said about this little game alone, it truly holds potential for essays and poetry and such... amazing work
Essays and poetry? That's so so nice! I'm so glad you enjoyed my take of the tale and that is spoke to something greater that needs to continue being said <3 I consider that part of O2A2 to be so impressive when creators can allude to a story that is so much bigger than itself. Thank you! This means so much coming from someone as talented as yourself!
This was such a lovely game. The music, art, and writing really tied everything together. The best way to describe it was so truly poetic and sweet. This had a very meaningful message I think could be interpreted in a few different and wonderful ways. I am not familiar with the original greek tale, but even without that background I still felt connected with this game. Amazing work for the jam!
I'm glad you took the time to play it and that you felt it was poetic (this was what I was going for, but I have to admit it is not my comfort zone) so I am glad I succeeded, even if only a little bit! Yes! The message kind of works in two ways, and no interpretation is wrong honestly, cause even I am split on which one I feel is 'canon' and ambiguity was also sort of the point- also 1k words is brutal for me.
I'm surprised not many people are familiar with the Narcissus tale, I thought it was fairly common, but I am happy to introduce you to it? (Though this take of the tale is a lot more light hearted lol) I'm glad you connected with it, and that you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the kind words! ;_;
Ahhh, this was such a lovely and heartwarming experience! I loved this take on the Narcissus myth, and I really think that it twisted the meaning into something more wholesome (and potentially more meaningful!)
The GUI is LOVELY, and I adored the green and beige/yellow color palette! The music track was calming and set the atmosphere so well. Cassandra's sprite was simply adorable, and the artstyle really suited the design of the GUI and the overall aesthetic for the game!
(Slight spoilers I suppose, but I simply must gush about the message of this game!)
This story was SO cleverly set up and told. Starting with Cassandra pondering over her suitors, who she doesn't feel any connection with, to reflecting on her mother's obsession with physical beauty that inevitably fades, to Cassandra's final passionate meeting with "Cassie." After they meet, all of the complications and messiness from the world fade away. Cassandra doesn't need to worry about marriage or her parents. She just needs to have lovely, romantic words for Cassie.
I think that this message was very well thought-out, and it's very true! At the end of the day, loving yourself is more meaningful and more sustaining than any love that you can receive from another person. Having confidence in yourself, loving yourself unconditionally...that's a very powerful thing! And I like how, unlike in the original tale, Cassandra's love IS requited. Cassie loves her back. She loves herself, and that's all that she needs. (The ending is bittersweet, but very true to the original tale! Though I'm a bit sad that Cassandra only lasted a week dfgfdgdg)
"To think, some will never experience this love." It's bittersweet, but it's true! Sometimes people try to plug the holes in their hearts with love from anyone or anything except for themselves. I hope everyone can find their own "Cassie" someday!
This was FANTASTIC, great job by the entire team!!
Aghhhhhh Chatter! I am so glad you enjoyed my take of this tale, I was worried I'd just upset big fans of the original  still might tbh... more meaningful than such a classic? I am SO flattered omg!
GUI is GORGEOUS, Key pulled no punches, they really delivered and captured my original vision and made it so much better!
I love your thoughts on the message of the story! And glad I could execute on it with the severe word limitation ;_; Yes Cassandra/Cassie OTP forever <3 lmfaoo a week is kind of impressive considering that humans can only go without food for 3 days.
And yes too real, gahhhh but yes! I hope that the Cassie flowers will provide everyone with the love we all so desperately need!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your detailed thoughts! I LOVED reading them! The team did incredible and I am so happy with the final product, and now the reception <3
So sweet!!! The UI, art, writing & music all tied in together so nicely!
I was not familiar with the original tale of Narcissus but after a quick google search, I think I much prefer this version :')
A very good use of the O2A2 restrictions!
The story didn't feel rushed at all despite being under 1k words ^^
Great job!!! <3
I also was like- "the original too sad," let's change that shall we! Honestly maybe I'll start a trend of more optimistic takes of classic Greek tales!
I'm glad the story didn't feel rushed, I felt very restricted as a serial overwriter so this means so much.
Thank you for taking some time to leave such kind words! <3
