#Catmageddon commercial presents terrifying possibility of an Internet without cats

Even with Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and LL Cool J at the Grammys, cats -- as usual -- upstaged them all.

TheTruth.com's commercial with agency 72andSunny against smoking used the hashtag #catmageddon and a few well-edited viral GIFs-- hello, Keyboard Cat -- to draw attention to the dangers of smoking.

From the looks of it, it worked pretty well.

Noting that cats are twice as likely to die of cancer if their owner smokes, the commercial intersperses facts with clips of famous internet cats showing shock and distress.

The ad isn't new -- having been released last week -- but wide exposure at the Grammys gave it new life.

It even caught the attention of Black Lives Matter activist and Baltimore mayoral candidate Deray McKesson.

But even regular viewers enjoyed it -- and got the message loud and clear, which is what any good ad should do.

It helped that the commercial had some help from popular cats like Hamilton the hipster cat.

The pointed commercial follows TheTruth.com's other pointed efforts at nonsmoking, including another scary campaign for Valentine's Day.
