The VAR review has determined that Argentina's goal in the second half was not valid, so Morocco retained its lead at 2-1 during its opening game as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The game resumed with additional time granted by the referee. Initially ending in a 2-2 draw, the match was contested by the Moroccan team, stressing the goal was offside. The Olympic committee then decided that the game would resume behind closed doors to finalize the result. The Algerian regime, the primary support of the separatist Polisario Front, has received a significant blow along with the African Union’s decision this week to exclude the separatist group from meetings between the continental organization and its international partners. This latest development was acted on July 19 as the two-day 45th session of the African Union Executive Council, which convened in Accra on July 18-19, overwhelmingly decided, with (52 votes in favor out of 54) to exclude the separatist group from the pan-African body’s meetings with international partners. Not surprisingly, the decision shocked and outraged the Polisario leadership and the separatist group’s devout supporters and sponsors. For observers, the African bloc’s decision does not only point to the alarmingly waning support for the separatist group’s dream of creating an independent state in the Western Sahara region in southern Morocco. Côte d'Ivoire Reaffirms Support for Morocco's Sovereignty and Autonomy Plan Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, welcomed his Ivorian counterpart, Kacou Houaja Léon Adom, in Rabat. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the longstanding bilateral relationship between Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire. The two ministers focused on enhancing economic cooperation, particularly in areas where both countries can benefit from shared expertise and resources. The diplomats also discussed the support of various development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare in both nations A key point of the meeting was the reaffirmation of Côte d'Ivoire's support for Morocco's sovereignty and the autonomy plan for the Western Sahara region.

Administrative missteps cost six exceptional students the chance to shine at the International Mathematical Olympiad held in England, prompting outrage and reflections on global inequalities for opportunities. Three years of preparation have ended in disappointment for six Moroccan students who were deprived of representing their country at the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in England this July. The students’ dreams were shattered due to administrative delays in processing their travel visas. On July 19, the Moroccan Mathematical Community (MMC) issued a statement expressing deep concern over the absence of the national mathematics team from the IMO. The spillover from the #COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant spike in inflation in #Morocco and around the world, with the Ukraine war further compounding the issue.

In a shocking announcement, US President Joe Biden has declared that he will end his candidacy for re-election, stating it is in the best interest of his party and the country. The decision comes just four months before Americans head to the polls and follows weeks of intense pressure from fellow Democrats after a faltering debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump. In an official letter posted to his social media account, Biden expressed that serving as president has been the greatest honor of his life. However, he believes standing down and focusing on his remaining term is the right course of action for the Democratic party and the nation. Biden's withdrawal upends the race for the White House, paving the way for a new generation of Democrats to enter the fray. As the Democratic Party now searches for another nominee, one likely primary front runner is Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, although nothing has been confirmed on her end that she will take the position at the top of the ticket.

#Morocco’s #Hajj Committee recommended that selected citizens drawn in the Hajj lottery should pay an approximate amount of MAD 65,000 ($6,693).   The committee held a meeting today in #Rabat to review the conditions of the  2024 Hajj season and discuss preparations for the Hajj seasons for next year, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said in a statement.   “After discussing the agenda items, the committee recommended for the Hajj season of 1446 AH that selected citizens drawn in the Hajj lottery within the official campaign list pay an approximate amount of 65,000 dirhams,” it added. https://lnkd.in/e-HEPkCu
