Planned use | Add the property to existing UK renewable power station items; Use the REPD to population missing properties / validate existing properties; Use the link to check completeness of notable UK renewable power stations in Wikidata |
Number of IDs in source | 8884 |
Expected completeness | always incomplete (Q21873886) (not all projects in the REPD would meet Wikidata's notability criteria, but all those above a certain installed capacity likely would) |
Formatter URL | none |
Robot and gadget jobs | One could write a bot to check Wikidata for missing renewable energy projects in the UK above a certain size automatically when the latest REPD extract is published by BEIS. |
Applicable "stated in"-value | Renewable Energy Planning Database (Q106715744) |
Distinct-values constraint | yes |
Motivation
editThe United Kingdom's Government department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has a database of existing and planned renewable energy production plants and heat networks called the Renewable Energy Planning Database. BEIS publishes extracts of the database on a quarterly basis under the Open Government Licence v3. The first publication was in July 2014. As the website explains: "The Renewable Energy Planning Database tracks the progress of renewable electricity and heat networks projects. It provides as accurate and comprehensive a snapshot as possible of projects in both areas, and of progress across the technology sectors, through the following stages: inception; planning; construction; operation; decommissioning." For each project it gives information including installed capacity, location, operator, key dates (e.g. date of commissioning), and subsidies. Each project in the database is assigned a unique ID.
Given the scope and authority of this database, it seems sensible to link it to Wikidata items representing UK renewable power projects and heat networks as this would facilitate the cross checking of statements and of coverage.

- Support Does a formatter URL exist for this? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:52, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Arthur. No formatter URL exists at present. The database extracts are published as CSV and Excel files. I wasn't sure how to represent this in the proposal form. I will add 'none' by formatter URL for now. William-of-Penge (talk) 07:09, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
