Haunter
Haunter was so cool looking. Gastly was enough already, but stumbling upon one of these things was downright terrifying. Then one time I caught one, and it completely destroyed Bruno by itself at level 25!
Because there weren't any good Ghost moves in Gen 1, it wasn't very useful in general. But nowadays it's pretty powerful, and Gengar is very commonly used.
Jigglypuff
Alright so it looked pretty stupid, but there was something satisfying about stumbling upon one of these things on the way to Mt Moon because they were so rare. And one time I taught a Wigglytuff Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and BubbleBeam and somehow at only level 35 it was really powerful against the Elite 4.
Ok so I'll admit it's a horrible Pokémon, but it's pretty adorable. It's also really fun to play as in Super Smash Bros.
Sandshrew
I really have no reason to like Sandshrew, I just always have. It's somewhat of an underdog, being outdone by virtually every other Ground type and lacking a good STAB. There's just something about it...
Like I said, it's pretty much out done by virtually every other Ground type. Nonetheless, Sandslash actually has decent stats, with good Attack and Defense. Not to mention a wonderful ability, Sand Veil.
Zubat
Who could forget Zubat. It shows up in just about every frickin' cave, ready to confuse your Pokémon with Supersonic or Confuse Ray. It's also one of the few Flying Pokémon that isn't a bird. The thing is, Bats are cool. Plain and simple. I've always liked Zubat and the rest of it's family.
At first Zubat wasn't very good, but with the release of generation 2 it was actually a good Pokémon. Crobat was fast and strong, with an assortment of moves to torment your opponent.
Meowth
Meowth!!! Meowth combined adorable with a bite, and it could collect money! Though I never really used Meowth, because I owned Red version. I always loved it, mostly because of the Anime but also because it was just awesome.
Alright so neither Meowth or Persian are any good. But Pay Day was useful!
Tentacruel
Tentacruel is so cool. It's a Giant Jellyfish thing. That's right, a JELLYFISH! In my opinion Jellyfish are one of the coolest animals (well, to be generic about it). In Gen 1, it kinda resembled a pissed off mage and later on it was just so cool.
Tentacruel was best in Gen 1, because it had amazing stats and a really high 'Special', not just a high Special Defense. So it could take hits and dish them out. But it's still a really good Pokémon, and it's every bit as awesome.
Muk
Muk to me represents Pokémons version of the quintessential 'Slime' monster in most RPGs. And for this, it's awesome. It's also a big scary slime monster.
Of course it could be better... not that it doesn't have good stats, it does. It's just stuck with Sludge for the longest time, and Poison is super effective against close to none.
Hitmonchan
For the longest time when I was younger, Hitmonchan was my favorite Pokémon. I'm not sure why anymore, but it's still really cool.
It sucked in Gen 1, because it lacked a good Special stat. The Special split in Gen 4 helped it a ton however, and it's Ability now is also very useful. Defensive, and offensive? Me like!
