We provide finance and expertise for sustainable investment projects that contribute to EU policy objectives and make a strong impact on people’s lives in Europe and beyond. The EU's bank The EIB is the European Union's bank. We are the only bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. We work closely with other EU institutions to implement EU policy. A major player As the largest multilateral borrower and lender by volume, we provide finance and expertise for sound and sustainable investment projects which contribute to furthering EU policy objectives. More than 90% of our activity is focused on Europe but we also implement the financial aspects of the EU's external and development policies. Lending, blending and advising Lending: The vast majority of our financing is through loans, but we also offer guarantees, microfinance, equity investment, etc. Blending: Our support helps us unlock financing from other sources, particularly from the EU budget. This is blended together to form the full financing package. Advising: Lack of finance is often only one barrier to investment. We can help with administrative and project management capacity which facilitates investment implementation.

    In Spain, we are supporting the first centre for interdisciplinary and applied immunology research, expected to become a benchmark in its field in Europe. The EIB will lend €80 million to finance the construction and launch of a research centre established by “Fundación ”la Caixa”. Construction of the first module of the CaixaResearch Institute should be complete by 2025, allowing the first research groups to move in. 3 key takeaways about the Institute 👇 1️⃣ It aims to become a leading European centre for immunological research, focusing on autoimmune, neurological, oncological, metabolic, and infectious diseases, while attracting international scientists. 2️⃣ It will cover over 20,000 m², host more than 500 personnel, and foster collaboration with the scientific community to boost healthcare innovation and competitiveness in the EU. 3️⃣ It will be designed with high energy efficiency standards, and integrated into Sierra de Collserola Park, and connected to the CosmoCaixa Science Museum.     For our delegation on the ground at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, it has been all about strong partnerships to improve global health and well-being: 🔵 during a joint EIB - World Health Organization event, attended by high level representatives and founding partners African Development Bank Group and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), President Nadia Calviño and DG Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced an initial €10 million contribution to kick-start the joint Health Impact Investment Platform.
