This week, we were honored to welcome a U.S. Congressional delegation, led by Senator Mark Kelly and Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Mike Rogers. Joining them were Senator Ted Budd and Congressmen Adam Smith, Dale Strong, and Ritchie Torres. The delegation met with Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, and members of the Seimas to discuss regional security in the face of Russian aggression as well as the United States' iron-clad commitment to NATO Allies. On August 26-27, over 300 soldiers from the U.S., Lithuania, and Norway gathered at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė for the challenging U.S. Cavalry Spur Ride. Soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, along with their Lithuanian Armed Forces counterparts, tested their endurance and tactical skills during this grueling 27-hour challenge, covering more than 40 kilometers. 💪 Congratulations to all who earned their silver spurs and completed the Spur Ride — a true testament to teamwork, perseverance, and dedication! On August 21, the Vilnius American Corner at Martynas Mažvydas National Library hosted a talk with managing editor of the Washington Examiner and veteran political analyst David Mark, who came to us live from the Democratic National Convention. David shared valuable insights on the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, focusing on key topics like election disinformation, the evolving role of media and social media in elections, and the history of U.S. election processes. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where attendees had the chance to ask David about the impact of modern-day media on democracy and the lessons we can learn from past elections. It was an inspiring and informative event for all involved! Last Friday, our Political and Economic Section officer Tammy visited Klaipėda to meet the amazing team at Caritas during their annual children's summer camp. This camp is a beautiful space for cultural exchange and friendship-building among refugee children from Ukraine, Belarus, Syria, and other countries who now call Lithuania home. Tammy shared her story as an immigrant to the United States from Vietnam, delivering her remarks in Lithuanian, while the camp participants shared their own experiences resettling in Lithuania. Tammy also visited the Blessed Mary Mother of Peace Church, a key partner of Caritas, which offers Lithuanian language lessons to Ukrainian refugees. She even joined in on a lesson herself! Additionally, Tammy met with local NGOs and the Klaipėda Police to discuss how they can work together to combat human trafficking and prevent domestic violence in the community. This visit highlighted the incredible impact of community collaboration, cultural exchange, and collective efforts to support refugees and build a safer, more inclusive future for all in Lithuania. #USinLT #StandingTogether #Caritas #Klaipėda Caritas
