About us
Litgrid is one of the key companies in the national electricity sector – the operator of the electricity transmission system, managing the flow of electricity across Lithuania. We maintain the stable operation of the national electricity network, ensuring the reliable, efficient, high-quality, transparent and safe transmission of electricity. As a company, we implement and manage complex infrastructure and strategic projects of both European and national significance. The NordBalt link with Sweden and the connection with Poland, LitPol Link, were implemented at the end of 2015. Another strategic project, Harmony Link, is currently in the process of implementation. We are also in charge of another power transmission infrastructure project of national significance – the synchronisation of the Lithuanian electricity network with the Continental European grid. This is a key milestone in Litgrid’s 2017–2026 strategy, which sets out our main priorities: integration with European electricity systems, the liberalisation of the electricity market, sustainable development of the transmission grid, the adoption of international standards and best practices, as well as the development of an advanced and modern organisation. At Litgrid, we believe in cooperation, professionalism and progress. These are our core values. Our ambitious vision is to become Europe‘s smartest transmission system operator. #smartestTSO Established in 2010, Litgrid employs 300 professionals in electrical engineering, engineering infrastructure, project management and other disciplines. We are an active member of ENTSO-E, the network of European electricity transmission system operators.

☴ Wind farms generated the most electricity in October, producing 281 GWh. This accounted for 47% of all electricity generated in Lithuania. The windy weather helped mitigate the impact of power plant and interconnector repairs in the region on electricity prices. 📅 October 20 was an exceptional day when the average daily electricity price reached EUR 2.6/MWh, the second lowest in history. Additionally, the last day of the month saw a new hourly wind generation record of 1,216 MW. 📊 The wholesale price of electricity in Lithuania rose by 9% last month, increasing from €83.7/MWh to €91.5/MWh. This price increase was driven by a halving of solar generation and the annual repairs of the NordBalt interconnector and thermal power plants in the region. ⚡ Overall, Lithuania generated 603 GWh of electricity in October, which is 2% more than in September, when generation reached 591 GWh. Domestic power plants accounted for 59% of the country’s electricity consumption. Compared to September, average monthly electricity consumption increased by 6%. #EnergyTransformationPartners #ElectricityMarket #RES

💡 Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI) is currently conducting a study aimed at outlining the concept of a virtual grid as a new electricity market product. This study will explore the technical, economic, and regulatory aspects necessary for implementing this innovative idea. 🤝 A workshop was held at our central office, bringing together representatives from LEI, along with our team and colleagues from Energy Cells. The participants engaged in meaningful discussions to address key questions posed by the study. ⚡ After an insightful presentation from LEI, attendees actively participated in discussions. The remainder of the day was spent in groups, with each group tackling one of LEI’s questions across three main themes: technical, economic, or implementation plans. #NewEnergy #EnergyTransformationPartners #Inovation

Together with Baltic and Polish electricity transmission system operators -Elering, Augstsprieguma tīkls AS, and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. - we participated in the PCI Energy Days, an international exhibition organized by the European Commission in Brussels. In just 94 days, the Baltic States will synchronise with the Continental Europe Synchronous Area, integrating into the European energy system. This will ensure independent and reliable frequency control while enhancing energy supply security. The synchronisation project is nearing completion, with strong support from the European Union. We presented the progress of this eagerly awaited megaproject to Kadri Simson, the Commissioner for Energy Policy. At PCI Energy Days, participants discussed key projects that will significantly impact Europe’s energy future and explored how to build a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure through innovative technologies. #Synchronisation #BalticSynchro #PCIdays #EnergyTranformationPartners

📣 Today in Vilnius, we launched a clock outside the Museum of Energy and Technology, counting down 100 days to 8 February 2025, when the Baltic electricity systems will operate independently for the first time and synchronise with the Continental European electricity system after an isolated operation test. Come and see it for yourself! ⚡The synchronisation of the Baltic States with the Continental Europe will take place through the extension of the existing LitPol Link between Lithuania and Poland. In preparation, the transmission grids of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland are being reinforced, synchronous condensers are being installed, and the systems are being prepared for disconnection from the IPS/UPS system and independent frequency control. 🕒 A specially designed video with an integrated timer will be shown to Vilnius residents and visitors throughout the 100 days until the disconnection from BRELL and synchronisation with Continental Europe. #EnergyIndependence #BalticSynchro #Synchronisation

The EPSO-G group, of which we are a part, has presented a new energy strategy for 2035. We share the key directions that have the biggest impact on Litgrid's strategy, which is currently being developed. The main investments will be in: 🟢 Synchronisation with the Continental European Grid. 🟢 Critical infrastructure resilience 🟢 Strengthening the existing electricity grid and expanding interconnections 🟢 New projects such as a long-term energy storage system and an energy hub. By 2035, the EPSO-G plans to invest €7-9 billion to strengthen Lithuania's drive for energy independence and develop sustainable energy infrastructure. EPSO-G has been working on the Group's strategy to 2035 together with Baringa. The group consists of Amber Grid, BALTPOOL, Energy Cells, EPSO-G Invest, Litgrid and Tetas. #Strategy #EnergyIndependence

📣 Today we launched the first synchronous condenser in Lithuania in Telšiai. The event was attended by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys, Litgrid and EPSO-G executives. ⚙️ Synchronous condensers are the most important equipment needed for the Baltic countries to prepare for independent frequency management. They will ensure the inertia of the power system and allow for quality regulation of grid voltage. 💡 A synchronous condenser increases inertia while slowing down frequency variations, for example in the event of an unexpected power plant shutdown. It is the first protection ring designed to maintain the frequency of the power system while other frequency support reserves, such as batteries and generating units, are activated. ⚡The unit, weighing more than 460 tonnes, was manufactured in Germany and installed in Lithuania by Siemens Energy.

🚶♂️🚶♀️ Around Kaunas lagoon: more extra miles with the team. As our hiking organizers said: “From colleague to companion, it’s just one step away!” We didn’t count the steps, but we traditionally collected sustainability kilometers, this time by hiking around Kaunas lagoon. Our route, rich in nature, wound through the Girionys region. Despite a chilly morning, we were fortunate with the weather – no rain allowed us to enjoy the trail from start to finish. 🌱 At Litgrid, we are committed to sustainability goals, and this hike was a nice opportunity to reflect on the impact of human activities on our environment. We were joined at the start by renowned Lithuanian sustainability enthusiast and presenter Silvestras Dikčius, who kept us engaged and tested our knowledge with a quiz at the end of the hike. Time flies, so we’re already looking forward to next year’s hiking challenges! 💪 #EnergyFutureCentre #Team #Sustainability #TeamBuilding #Litgrid
