The John Keells Group emerged as the Champions at the Standard Chartered Cup 2024, defeating LOLC Finance 2-0. This is the second time the Group has won this 5-a-side futsal tournament, organised by Standard Chartered Sri Lanka. As champions, our team will receive an all-inclusive paid trip to the UK to witness Liverpool FC (LFC) live at an English Premier League game at Anfield, and a tour of Anfield Stadium, home of the Mighty Reds. Today commemorates World Youth Skills Day. We, at the John Keells Foundation, understand the importance of education, knowledge, and skills in creating a generation of well-equipped individuals who can bring positive change to our country, and the world. With this in mind, over the years, we have implemented programmes and initiatives that educate students across the various regions of the country. The Soft Skills Programme implemented in 2006, strives to develop the soft skills of undergraduates, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and essential employability skills. The Higher Education Scholarship Programme introduced in 2014, addresses a critical issue in the country - discontinued education due to poverty. With the support offered through this programme, students can continue their education resulting in them securing better job opportunities. The Career Guidance Programme, implemented in 2012, guides O/L and A/L students to make informed decisions about prospective career paths, helping them prepare for the future. The English Language Scholarship Programme, our longest initiative yet, has been active since 2004 continuing to empower the youth of our nation. Celebrating its 20th year, this programme has supported over 20,000 school children and youth, from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, to learn and develop their English language skills. The aim being to increase their chances of employability while widening their horizons.
