  • 🎉 Today, May 29, a special commemorative stamp was issued by the Sri Lanka Post to celebrate IWMI's 40th anniversary, and four decades of partnership with Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, visited IWMI's global headquarters in Colombo and received the first stamp. 💧 Since 1984, IWMI has contributed to shaping water management practices in Sri Lanka and the world. In the last 40 years, IWMI has grown in scale, impact and areas of research — from an institute focused on water for agriculture to a global leader in integrated water management. Looking forward, IWMI will continue to contribute to Sri Lanka's water security and climate goals. #OneCGIAR #40YearsinSriLanka #WaterSecurity

  • 💧🌱 Strengthening Water and Food Systems in Morocco In June, IWMI held the Morocco Resilience Days forum in Rabat. This four-day strategic event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests and with support from the Ministry of Equipment and Water. It brought together 450 experts in water management and agriculture from the public and private sectors to discuss and learn about IWMI’s research evidence developed in Morocco for Morocco resilience and to develop future collaborative research-based solutions to ensure food and water security despite worsening climate change and water scarcity. Key outcomes of this forum include: 🤝 The signing of two MoUs with local partners for strengthened scientific cooperation on wastewater reuse and digital water solutions 🔍 Showcasing the vital contribution of IWMI’s innovations in Morocco, including its water accounting dashboard, fragility analysis framework, and multiscale polycentric governance 🌐 Sharing Morocco’s best practices and experiences to empower local communities and improve resilience strategies 📽️ For more details and to catch a recap video of this significant event, please visit on.cgiar.org/3AvsZXo #OneCGIAR #ResilientMorocco Ministère de l'Agriculture, de la Pêche Maritime, du Développement Rural et des Eaux et Forêts, Ministère de l'Equipement et de l'Eau, Youssef Brouziyne, MAHA Al-ZU'BI, Ph.D. #OneCGIAR #ResilientMorocco

  • The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus approach will ensure holistic and sustainable development by incorporating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, agreed Nepali officials from concerned departments. At an IWMI-led workshop on WEFE Nexus and GESI, held in Kathmandu on August 16, they highlighted the immense potential inherent in the Nexus approach for sustainable development of sectors related to water, energy, food and ecosystems. By including the Nexus approach, they agreed, it would be easier to achieve national goals as well as SDG 2 for Zero Hunger. #OneCGIAR #NEXUSGainsInitiative Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT

  • 🖼️ Lesotho Border; Limpopo River Basin; Hex River; Du Toits Kloof; Augrabies National Park | Oil on Canvas | Fanie Buys | South Africa These artworks were created by a talented young artist as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations to showcase 4 decades of research for development excellence and shed light on the critical issue of water security and its significance in shaping our collective future. These artworks were created by a talented young artist as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations to showcase 4 decades of research for development excellence and shed light on the critical issue of water security and its significance in shaping our collective future. Buys always knew water was a finite resource – but was shocked to understand just how finite it was upon beginning his research for this project. In South Africa, the key to ensuring sustainable access to water in the future is management integrating stakeholders from municipalities to rural communities. Landscape painting, historically, was about creating a connection to pieces of land by the owners- establishing legitimacy over their estates by rendering them immutably. These pieces seek to use the mechanism of painting, that immutable rendering, to democratize a sense of ownership and responsibility for these spaces. Buys is a South African born artist living in the UK. He works predominantly in oils but dabbles in performance and installation. Buys’ work uses idiosyncratic selections of source imagery touching on tabloid photography, film history and traditional oil painting. Buys creates pieces which use the mimetic power of his traditional technique to shift the context of images with understood meaning. #PaintingWaterFutures #OneCGIAR #40YearsOfIWMI
