Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC (Member of Hayleys Plantations Sector) has set new benchmarks in sustainability by significantly reducing its carbon footprint, enhancing ecosystem health, and increasing renewable energy capacity. These achievements contributed to the company winning the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award. One of the people behind these efforts is Krishna Ranagala, the Deputy General Manager of Sustainability & QSD, whose unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship has been instrumental in driving these initiatives forward.

At the 105th AGM of the Colombo Rubber Traders’ Association, Hayleys PLC Chairman & Chief Executive, Mohan Pandithage emphasised the importance of: 🔹 Compliance with international standards 🔹 Adapting to environmental challenges 🔹 Collaborative efforts for sustainable growth “Replanting rubber in dry zones, adopting regenerative practices, and achieving compliance through international standards and certifications will ensure long-term sustainability and growth. However, we must also consider culture, change, and collaboration. All stakeholders must come together to explore avenues in which the industry can contribute towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” said Pandithage. “Transitioning from traditional farming to a modern 'SMART – Agribusiness Management model' will help redesign a more sustainable, dynamic, and resilient industry. Ultimately, the industry’s future depends on embracing ESG principles.
