Salicaceae est familia Angiospermarum, quae sensu stricto salices et populos comprehendit. Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) secundum recentes investigationes geneticas, familiam auxit ut 56 genera et circiter 1220 species contineat.[3][4]
In systemate Cronquist Salicaceae ad suum ordinem proprium Salicales ascriptae sunt et tria genera continebat, haec erant Salix, Populus, ac Chosenia. APG familiam in ordine Malpighialium locavit.
