In the 17th edition of MDPI Insights: The CEO's Letter, Stefan Tochev recaps MDPI's Open Access Week campaign, which reinforces our commitment to advancing open access as it remains central to global research. We also congratulate this year’s Nobel laureates, especially Professor David Baker -- co-author a 2016 paper in MDPI’s Toxins journal -- whose pioneering work in protein design is transforming vaccines and nanotechnology. On 21 October, we welcomed Editors-in-Chief and Board Members to our Basel headquarters for a full-day workshop focused on editorial policies, data integrity, and insights into the local market. Our Non-coding RNA World 2024 conference in Basel highlighted recent breakthroughs in RNA medicine. Finally, Stefan shares his experience at the Beijing Graphene Forum 2024, where we established the Chemical Science Committee, an important initiative to support the growth of MDPI’s journals and influence in China. The feeling of being in a romantic relationship is a special one. Some couples are more romantic than others and are often described as lovebirds. As well as a term of endearment for the cuter couples out there, it is also a scientific term. The lovebird scale is a measure of thoughts, feelings, actions, habits and behaviors that enable the romantic relationship to flourish. A study published in the Open Access journal Behavioral Sciences MDPI and cited in Forbes, explores the validity of the scale by asking people in committed long-term relationships to fill out the lovebird questionnaire. They found that the lovebird scale was a valid construct to assess how flourishing a relationship may be and gives us a wider understanding of how very specific factors impact the state of the relationship and its development. The authors conclude how it is a useful tool for both people who are in coupled, and for researchers who seek to understand the deeper functioning of romantic relationships.
