    Introducing #CNT, a groundbreaking material for the nano age that will transform traditional industrial materials like steel, diamond, copper, and fiber.   CNT (Carbon Nanotube) is the strongest and toughest material discovered to date in terms of tensile strength and elastic modulus. In addition, it is lighter than many metals, including aluminum, and has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.   LG Chem embarked on R&D in 2011 with the goal of developing proprietary CNT technology. To secure a competitive edge in the rapidly growing global CNT market, especially in battery materials, LG Chem has been continuously expanding its CNT production capacity. Starting with the operation of the 500-ton capacity CNT Plant 1 in 2017, LG Chem is currently building CNT Plant 4.     LG Chem is enhancing its investment in manufacturing automation at its reverse osmosis (RO) membrane plant in Korea. Leveraging its decades of expertise in automated manufacturing, the facility is now among the most advanced and efficient production lines worldwide. Following the expansion of its RO manufacturing facility, LG Water Solutions, the #ROmembrane business unit of LG Chem, will significantly increase its production capacity. "With the second plant set to become commercially operational in 2028, we expect annual sales to reach approximately $288.8 million (400 billion won), doubling our 2023 figures," stated Hoon Hyung, PhD, PE, Head of LG Water Solutions.     LG Chem's heat-resistant ABS (XR438) has been mass-produced for Hyundai Kia Motor Company's (HKMC) trunk lid garnish. By using LG Chem's heat-resistant ABS, #HKMC has effectively resolved common quality issues related to painting and molding defects in large automotive exterior parts, thereby reducing defect-related costs.   To achieve these results, LG Chem employed the same evaluation tools as HKMC for thorough comparative analysis and verification. Supported by quantitative 3D scanning data, this process led to a more than 10% reduction in painting defects, greatly enhancing customer satisfaction.   The application of LG Chem's heat-resistant #ABS in HKMC's mass production marks a significant milestone in the automotive market, where OEM material approval is crucial. This success lays the foundation for expanded applications in new models and vehicle types.     #CNT is used not only in secondary batteries but also in automobiles, aircraft, and semiconductors. LG Chem is expanding its CNT production capacity to gain a competitive edge in the rapidly growing global CNT market, with a particular focus on battery materials.   Once LG Chem's CNT Plant 4 is completed in 2025, the production capacity of CNT will increase from the current 2,900 tons to 6,100 tons.
