About

Cuckstoel is the Dutch translation of cuck chair, which is a slang term for a chair situated nearby a bed and facing it meant for a cuckold to sit. In late September 2024, the word went viral on X / Twitter following a post in which a person used the term to refer to a neighborless, backward seat on public transport, writing in Dutch, "Yess de cuckstoel is nog vrij," inspiring memes about such seats.

Origin

On September 29th, 2024, X[1] / Twitter user @racekak posted a photograph of a blue backward seat on a passenger train, writing in Dutch "Yess de cuckstoel is nog vril" ("Yes, the cuck chair is available"), comparing the lone neighborless chair facing the other passengers sitting together to the chair a cuckold sits in while watching their partner have sex. The post (shown below) received over 3,200 reposts and 26,000 likes in one week.

Spread

On September 30th, 2024, X[2] user @DerChrizzIX posted an edited photograph of the chair, writing "oh nee iemand poopensharten op de cuckstoel," with "poopensharten" being a fake word and a reference to the Poopenfarten meme. The post (shown below) received over 4,200 reposts and 29,000 likes in one week.

In the following week, the word "cuckstoel" received viral spread on X / Twitter as it was used to refer to various awkwardly positioned chairs and to reference the original post.

For example, on October 2nd, 2024, X[3] user @1954x1887 posted an image of a train seat being sold on a marketplace, commenting, "Yess de cuckstoel is nog te koop" ("Yes, the cuck chair is for sale"). The post (shown below) garnered over 410 reposts and 11,000 likes in two days.

The joke maintained its popularity on X / Twitter through early October 2024, with posts usually captioned in Dutch or German.
