PRECIOUS CARGO - A HEIST MISSION FOR FIST
A downloadable mission
[STATIC]—don’t know if you’ve ever been to an auction before but I promise they’re not normally this complicated. The MIDNIGHT TRAIN, is carrying a who’s who of officious scumbags all trying to get their hands on some big ticket items, guarded by even bigger, heavily-armed scumbags. Now I could just sit there and place a bid like a good boy but hiring you was much, much cheaper—[CHUCKLES, FOLLOWED BY COUGHING FIT]
[STATIC]...sorry. Time is of the essence, that goes without saying. But do me a favor and don’t go killing just anybody. The buyers onboard represent some of my best contacts. Not to mention little ol’ me will be in attendance...and I'm your way out. [LIGHT LAUGHTER, STIFLED COUGH]
Just get me the mask and take your pick of whatever else you find on there. I’m sure there will be some level of security, worth it for the kinda shit this train is supposed to be carrying. A win-win for us, wouldn’t you say? But the mask is mine, got that? It’s MINE. [COUGHING FIT, AUDIO ENDS]
A dying man of questionable means thinks the answer to his problems lies within an artifact, THE MASK OF EDEN. The only problem? It’s currently in the hands of an organized syndicate of thieves and power brokers that have operated since the days of Alexander the Great.
PRECIOUS CARGO is a mission for FIST: Ultra Edition about robbing a black market auction being held on a guarded, armored train. Seedy organizations and covert government entities tied to the Cold War have sent Surrogates to bid on powerful objects and weapons being sold on the locomotive, codenamed THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN.
The train is used as a secure, mobile stronghold for TALARIA, an ancient Greek organization of thieves. The mission starts as a simple train heist where the players are tasked with boarding the moving train, working through various cars and dealing with guards and fortifications and ends either with their unhindered success or a bombastic final boss fight. PRECIOUS CARGO is a timed mission and referees are encouraged to use a real timer (either on a phone or an alarm clock) that is displayed in front of the players for the duration of the play session.
In addition to the mission this document includes:
- an introduction to TALARIA, a brief history of the organization and stat blocks for various enemies, including the mission boss ENDYMION.
- a visual breakdown and stat block for THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN and instructions on how to run the two hour heist in real time.
- VAULT LOOT: 10 unique items, collectibles and artifacts that can be looted or used for other missions from the train's VAULT CAR.
- a table of 4 new pieces of HEIST GEAR and a statblock for BADBOY, a customized ARMORED BLACK SEDAN that would all make 007 jealous.

Fantastic module! Good balance between detail and at-the-table usability, pretty graphic design and an engaging scenario, though I feel like it's not over-the-top enough. The Mask of Eden could be a tad more powerful, and The Dying Man's ambiguity is nice, but for being so central to the plot he could use an extra paragraph of fleshing out. In my game I made him the biblical Methuselah, who faked his death during the Genesis Flood and continued on living, planning on doing so so until the end of the world (whether or not this is sinister foreshadowing I have not yet decided). The Mask I rewrote to be reusable and bumped up the lifespan extension to 1000 years, but each time a mysterious calamity separates it from its owner (the flood, for example). I ran the rest as-is, the party loved it.
Can't wait to see more TALARIA stuff from you, the faction strikes the sweet spot between being quite self-explanatory and intriguing on the player side of things. Hell, any FIST content from Knighthouse is gonna feel like early christmas now.
Wow, thank you so much for the glowing review! And I agree with you. The Dying Man could be a little more fleshed out. I'm planning on making an updated version with a few more pages where I can give him a whole section for future referees.
Happy to hear your players enjoyed it as well! Can't wait to pub the full campaign :)
Can't wait to play! Every page looks gorgeous and thoughtfully designed
looks great, can we get it in 'pages' format?
Hey thanks!
And for sure, a pages format is coming soon, will notify you!
