About this site

FAQ is RIGHT HERE.

Kelly Sue DeConnick.

I'm a writer, of comic books mostly. I live in Portland, OR, with my husband, writer Matt Fraction and our kids, Henry Leo and Tallulah Louise. Our company is called Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, Inc.

I don't sell my books directly, I'm afraid. Try your local comic book shop, or my Amazon Author Page. Digital comics? Find me on Comixology.

I frequently get book/media rec ASKS so I decided to start putting together an actual list of what I’m into, in both the short and long term.

This page is a work in progress, but every item here means something to me. I’ll try to add links and elaborate as I have time.

Non-Fiction

Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life - I honestly don’t think there’s a work day that goes by that I don’t think about something from this book – whether it’s the tiny frame, the shitty first draft or the titular “bird by bird,” this book is full of gold.

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity

The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles - It’s really easy to get fall into the practice of reading about writing rather than writing, but this book is a powerful touchstone for me.  His description of “resistance” as the only time the word “evil” has made any real sense is particularly resonant.  Hickman’s also a fan.
