#KenyaNchiYangu 🇰🇪 🎉 What beautiful voices! 🌟 On 15th June 2024, we came together at Ushirika School Kibera to advocate for access to education for all children, including those in conflict with the law. This was a #communityengagement and #childparticipation event, with side events featuring an on-site legal aid clinic and confidential child therapy. We cannot speak for child rights without raising awareness on their rights, and amplifying their voices to ensure they're heard. We continue to push for equitable education and support all children in reaching their full potential. The Day of the African Child was celebrated on the 12th of June with the theme "Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now," highlighting the crucial need to ensure that every child has access to quality education. Our colleague, Christine Njane Njane, along with David Nguru from WAKILI.SHA, provided training to 10 children between the ages of 10 and 18 from disadvantaged backgrounds. During the training, we discussed the impact of education on access to justice, covering both formal and informal education, including vocational training and digital literacy. The children's curiosity and their eagerness to learn about their rights and life challenges were truly inspiring. One of the most memorable moments occurred when a child asked why education doesn't always lead to job opportunities, shedding light on these children's difficult realities. This underscores the importance of supporting their journey into adulthood. #DAC #EducationForAllChildren #Probono #DAC2024

This week, the world celebrates #TheDayOfTheAfricanChild, instituted in 1991 by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the OAU in memory of the 16 June 1976 student uprising in Soweto, South Africa. In commemoration of this, WAKILI.SHA, a not-for-profit organisation that advocates for access to justice and education for children in conflict with the law, is hosting a series of events in celebration of the development of access to education for all children. CMS and CMS Daly Inamdar Advocates proudly sponsored and participated in this year’s campaign themed "Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now," emphasising the urgent need to address educational disparities across the continent. This theme is inspired by the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and aims to ensure that every child has access to quality education. The phrase ‘Time is now’ spearheading this year’s celebrations is pivotal to the achievement of a host of other rights that children are entitled to. Oliver Manyasi and Radhika Bhullar spoke at the Media and Child Training Workshop, highlighting the firm’s commitment to child justice and education with an emphasis on providing legal support. Lucy Mwaura was also in attendance. Further Ombeva Mitto will be involved in the legal aid clinic during the community engagement event, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that children in conflict with the law receive the support they need. Many thanks to WAKILI.SHA for hosting this celebration and our team for representing the CMS Spirit.
