Celebrating 5 years of empowering every child to reach their full potential.

About us

TFK seeks to build a leadership force for the country that will catalyze systemic change in their communities to ensure that every Kenyan child unlocks their potential and is equipped to design a successful future for themselves. We aim to do this by recruiting talented young Kenyan leaders into a two-year teaching fellowship. The fellowship aims to place these high-potential leaders in teaching positions in high-need schools across the country, providing children with high-quality education and inspirational role models. Upon completion of the fellowship, these young leaders will be supported to take up leadership roles across society that will collectively contribute to the systemic change needed across Kenya to transform our schools, schooling systems, and the broader ecosystem of social and economic opportunity.

Fellows Spotlight🌟 Meet Gladys Jerop Sawe and David Ouma Omondi, our Cohort 3 Fellows who are working to 'light' up low income communities. According to a survey by UN Habitat, only 20% of urban slum households have access to steady supply of electricity. Being agents of change, Gladys and David have started Edu-Power Initiative, a project that seeks to provide affordable access to electricity by leveraging on biogas. Through their project, thus far, 80 households are benefiting from the charging stations that Edu-Power has put up. They have also been able to impact more than 400 students in 5 classrooms by providing electric bulbs. Want to learn more about their project? Last Friday, we hosted our annual Eagles' Den at Deloitte Place in Nairobi. The whole day event saw 31 active fellows pitch their social ideas to a panel of judges with the hopes of securing new partnerships. The participants aim to implement solutions to cultural, social, or environmental problems. Speaking at the event, Ms. Catherine Matara from the Ministry of Education, congratulated all the fellows for coming up with creative ways of serving their communities. Eagles' Den is inspired by Shark Tank, the critically acclaimed and multi-Emmy award-winning business-themed reality series that celebrates entrepreneurship. We partnered with Deloitte and Jibu to make the event a success! #eaglesden #teachforkenya

Young people are taking constructive steps to address climate change. Paul Muthoni is one of the leading minds taking the charge for climate justice through advocacy and education. A Teacher Leader at Chieko Primary School in Kasarani, Paul is passionate about working with children because he believes they're the hope towards a better tomorrow. Some of the projects he is implementing include: - Developing a kitchen garden to complement the school feeding program. - Planting of fruit trees to mitigate climate change and boost food security. Paul holds a firm belief in the power and potential of every child. His wish is to see everyone uniting to protect our planet and future generations. #TeachForKenya #FellowSpotlight

Fellow Spotlight⚡ Walter Tito is a Cohort 4 Fellow at Mavoko Junior Secondary School where Christian Religious Education (CRE) is a compulsory subject. To ensure children receive age-appropriate Bibles so they can grow spiritually, Walter came up with a proposal that he shared with Christian Education Ministry. His goal was to provide his students with a Bible they can understand and love, filled with colorfully illustrated stories and concepts. We are happy to announce that Christian Education Ministry accepted Walter's proposal and donated over 500 Bibles to his school in Machakos. #fellowspotlight #teachforkenya
