Yesterday we held a breakfast meeting with the heads of our partner schools in Machakos County. The event was led by our CEO, Yukabeth Kidenda, alongside Rachel Mwangi - Head of Training and Leadership Development, and our Program Officer, Albert Kiptoo. We were honoured to have Mr. Simon Njiru, Machakos County Project Coordinator from the Ministry of Education, who expressed his gratitude and encouraged us to expand our reach across the county. Our Fellows, as reported by the heads of schools, have initiated various projects, reflecting the diverse professional backgrounds we advocate for. This diversity aligns with and supports students' dreams and aspirations. #teachforkenya #machakoscounty

Celebrating 5 years of empowering every child to reach their full potential.
About us
TFK seeks to build a leadership force for the country that will catalyze systemic change in their communities to ensure that every Kenyan child unlocks their potential and is equipped to design a successful future for themselves. We aim to do this by recruiting talented young Kenyan leaders into a two-year teaching fellowship. The fellowship aims to place these high-potential leaders in teaching positions in high-need schools across the country, providing children with high-quality education and inspirational role models. Upon completion of the fellowship, these young leaders will be supported to take up leadership roles across society that will collectively contribute to the systemic change needed across Kenya to transform our schools, schooling systems, and the broader ecosystem of social and economic opportunity.

We keep learning everyday 📖👏 25 of our Fellows recently participated in NABU's inaugural hybrid teacher training session dubbed “The Power of a Read Aloud”. The training was designed to be an educator's gateway to mastering interactive read-aloud sessions that not only nurture a love for reading but also significantly enhances literacy development in children. By incorporating interactive read-aloud techniques into their daily practice, our Fellows learnt how to create dynamic and interactive reading experiences that captivate students and support critical literacy skills. We are grateful to NABU for their support 🤝 #teachforkenya #readwithnabu

We participated in the National Read Aloud campaign last week in partnership with Start A Library Trust. This initiative aims to unite learners while fostering a love for reading, and raising climate change awareness. Our Fellows led students in our partner schools to read 'Kijiji cha Ukame' - a booklet by Hamisa Babusa that advocates for environmental conservation. The day gave students an opportunity to learn more about their role in combating climate change. Let’s keep spreading the joy of reading and the importance of literacy 📚 📖 #TeachForKenya #WorldReadAloudDay

Ever imagine hundreds of thousands of voices saying the same words, at the same time? Well, guess what? Today, we were part of something that might have been just that! Today at our school, Mavoko SNP Primary, Tr. Laura Odeny, Tr.Emily and I prepared the students to participate in the National Read Aloud by Start A Library Trust and Storymoja Africa. The aim was to break the current world record of the most learners, reading the same text, at the same time, at different schools around Kenya. The record stood at 299,000 learners. Today's aim was 500,000 learners. Cassie Bedel Samson Mwangi Teach For Kenya Teach For All #thenationalreadaloud #literacy
