“For the event, we gathered a group of experts to have a series of conversations focused on finding solutions and progressing three priority areas for driving the nature market forward,” reflects Palladium Director of Climate Finance, Elmedina Krilasevic on the recent bi-annual meeting of the Coalition for Private Investment in Conservation (CPIC). The event, which was held in Palladium's new London offices, offered an opportunity for leading nature investors and conservation organisations to discuss nature finance, biodiversity credits, business models, and scaling up private finance for nature. Who is the development professional of the future? Our co-CEO Sinead Magill has been looking around at Palladium's global offices and reflecting on how much the sector has changed - for the better - since she began her career. "If we’re going to address today’s challenges and those of our quickly approaching future, we’ll need development professionals who are equipped to do so," she says, "not just by their education, but by their experiences, their diverse perspectives, and perhaps above all, their bravery." Global health security is at the heart of mitigating the impacts of current global health issues while preparing for those to come. When global health security is done right, it means there are strong systems and frameworks in place to prevent and respond to global health threats—threats such as the COVID-19 pandemic, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. As our teams attend the International AIDS Conference in Munich this week to discuss global health security in the context of the fight against HIV/AIDS, we invite you to explore the latest edition of The Catalyst Special Report: Global Health Security. https://ow.ly/25lf50SInNK #AIDS2024 | #GlobalHealth | #HealthSecurity

Last week we celebrated Youth Skills Day and the contribution of the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) in creating, matching and improving decent work prospects for youth, especially young women. We're highlighting Mary's story, one of CFYE's beneficiaries. Due to the pandemic in 2020, Mary, a single mother, lost her job at a local school. With support from CFYE, she found a new occupation as a Black Soldier Fly farmer, which provided her with financial sustainability and a renewed sense of purpose. Mary is just one of 230,000 young women and men supported by CFYE in finding employment around sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. This year, Regeneration, our partnership with Systemiq Ltd. supporting tropical commodity entrepreneurs, kicked off work on AFR100, a country-led effort to restore 100 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes across Africa by 2030. Our team recently met with some of the entreprenuers working across commodities such as macadamia nuts, avocado oil, and drought resistant tree nurseries. They share some key insights from the visits and the challenges entrepreneurs are facing in Kenya. "How many of the people implementing a USAID-funded project in-country should actually be from that country?" Palladium co-CEO Ricardo Michel MBA, CPA recently returned from a visit to Palladium's offices in Indonesia, Nigeria, and Kenya, with a renewed pride and appreciation for our approach to localization. With the recent release of USAID's Localization Progress Report for 2023, he's more certain than ever of the role we have to play. Exciting news from Palladium's Regeneration! We are thrilled to announce the launch of Rebuild's Technical Assistance Facility, designed to help cocoa and coffee businesses comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). When the new rules come into effect in December 2024, companies trading in cocoa, coffee, cattle, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood will have to conduct extensive due diligence on their value chains to ensure the goods don't cause deforestation, forest degradation, or breach local environmental and social laws. For many small businesses, meeting these regulations will be difficult. But they're necessary, and our new facility will support businesses working in cocoa and coffee in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda to meet the new requirements. Applications are now being accepted from businesses looking for traceability, regulation, and data management support to meet EUDR requirements! Farmers in Indonesia are aging. This means the prevalence of disabilities, especially those related to mobility and sensory functions, is increasing. Routine tasks for farmers, such as gathering green fodder to feed their dairy cows in a backyard pen or reading the label on the back of a fertiliser bottle at their local agri-kiosks are becoming more difficult. In May, PRISMA, a partnership between the Indonesian and the Australian Government, hosted an event to give agribusinesses an opportunity to learn from farmers with disabilities and share best practices for reaching farmers with a disability with products, services, and innovations that can increase their incomes. Last week, our Australian colleagues marked NAIDOC Week to recognise, celebrate, and learn about the history, culture and achievements of Australia’s First Nations peoples. Our team in Vanuatu took the opportunity to reflect on what this means for international development, writing for the Development Policy Centre about the impact of Indigenous foreign policy commitments on the justice sector. The goal is to "work through the lens of culture and connect in a spirit of genuine partnership and respect with our colleagues, partners, and communities," says Alice McGrath, who works on Palladium's Vanuatu-Australia Policing and Justice Program.
