Improving access to quality education for children in underserved communities in Africa.

About us

To address the staggering shortage of 70,000 teachers we recruit motivated high school graduates, train them, and deploy them to work as volunteer teaching assistants during their pre-university break. Each teaching assistant commits to a minimum of 15 hours per week , for a minimum period of 6 months (2 school terms). Our volunteers work in grading, mentoring, tutoring, substitute teaching (when teachers are absent) and managing extra-curricular activities. In exchange, they receive mentoring, job-readiness training, and entrepreneurial skills.

As Alvin Kubasu so beautifully puts it, I am a citizen of the world by affiliation, a Kenyan by birth but PACEMaker at heart. Meeting with my fellow PACEmaker International alumni always yields productive outcomes. I am as inspired as ever to continue on my change making journey. Thank you to Carolyne Gathuru for delivering an enlightening speech on the importance of driving change. Through PACE, I am grateful to have embraced the invaluable lesson of ‘Service Beyond Self’ that reminds me that our impact on the world should extend far beyond personal interests. #PACEAlumni #change #sdg4 #AnnualNationalConference

I’m delighted to have officially achieved World Literacy Foundation Ambassador status.👩🏽🎓 📚This is a global initiative that empowers young leaders to promote literacy and education in their communities. As an SDG 4 advocate, I’m passionate about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all. 📚During the programme,I had the opportunity to collaborate with amazing youth from around the world🌍who share my vision and passion for literacy. I also had the pleasure of being part of a team- Book Bytes: Tales That Spark , a project where we read stories to young children and spark their curiosity and imagination. Find Book Bytes: Tales That Spark website link here- https://lnkd.in/dbJACUZM 📚I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue on the #SDG4 advocacy journey from 2019, where I served as a volunteer teaching assistant with PACEmaker International .I witnessed the impact of literacy and education on the lives of students in low income earning communities in Kenya. Find video of my PACEmaker International story here-https://lnkd.in/duESQPnh 📚I believe that literacy is the key to freedom, opportunity, and empowerment for a community, starting with a child. Literacy can unlock the potential of a child to achieve their dreams, to access opportunities, and to contribute to a society. 🌍 “Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.” - Ruth Bader Ginsburg Rosario Aran Nongcebo B. I did it . I graduated 🎉One of the achievements God gave me this year😌.The first official application, the first acceptance, the first interview and the first time being a teacher. The journey began with a four day training to equip us with the knowledge and skills needed .This was my first experience being an actual teacher besides teaching my siblings back at home. Every morning I would find my way as a grade 2 teaching assistant to Gachororo primary school where I would help the teacher with marking exercise books and explaining further to some learners. In the evening we would have a TaRl( Teaching at the right level) session with students who had a challenge with English through poems and songs. Some days I would be very busy with my degree at JKUAT but the smiles and joy of the learners as I got to class was what kept me going . After every two weeks we would have trainings at pace offices, share our experiences and also got to discuss on how to overcome challenges. At the end of our programme we were able to do a project which we were guided professionally by the team from pace. This was a journey of growth ,learning and above all doing something I loved. It was a sad day saying goodbye to the kids I grew so close to since the programme is only for a maximum of 9 months. Thank you PACEmaker International for giving me the opportunity and equipping me with knowledge.
