Today is World Hepatitis Day! “It’s time for action” is the theme for 2024. Viral hepatitis is the second leading infectious cause of death globally, with an estimated 304 million people worldwide live with hepatitis B or C. For most, testing and treatment remain beyond reach. The Dutch Global Health Strategy 2023-2030: “Working together for health worldwide” aims to contribute in a coordinated and targeted way to improving public health around the world, including elimination efforts of viral hepatitis. @DUTCHMFA @MinVWS @GlobalHealthOrg @WHO @WHOKENYA MOH_Kenya https://lnkd.in/eu4n5dJR

Welcoming to the newest member to the NL Embassy Team in Nairobi! 🇳🇱 Hello everyone! My name is Julie Fraser, the newest Embassy Science Fellow in Kenya. Back in the Netherlands I am an assistant professor of international law at Utrecht University (but I am actually Australian). My research in Kenya is on the resolution of disputes arising due to climate change before ‘alternative’ justice mechanisms. To me this relates to core issues of climate justice and social justice, which fit my passion for human rights. The core principles of human rights are equality and dignity, which are my motivation for everything. In addition to being a nerd, I also love art, theatre, and dance. And cats. I arrived in Kenya in June when the protests started, so it has been interesting to talk to everyone in depth about the current political situation. With thanks Dr. Julie Fraser

🛳 Interesting trade mission happening in Tanzania! 📅 6 - 8 November 2024 See below link for details
Between 6 and 8 November, the Dutch Embassy in Tanzania is organizing a trade mission to mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar focused on the ports and logistics sector. This timely initiative aligns with the booming business environment in Tanzania's ports and logistics industry, driven by the country's rapid economic growth. Tanzania is actively stimulating foreign investments in ports and logistics to leverage its favorable geographical location as a regional trade hub. The Embassy recognizes the significant opportunities this sector presents and has made it a priority through various initiatives, including regular meetings, newsletters, and webinars to engage with key stakeholders. The upcoming trade mission is the next step in the Embassy's efforts to facilitate greater cooperation and business development in Tanzania's ports and logistics industry. Dutch companies that are currently active or considering to do business in this sector are invited to participate. The program will include site visits to potential ports and dry ports, meeting with institutions and companies, as well as matchmaking sessions and networking receptions to promote dialogue and collaboration. We have included a detailed concept note for more information. You can access the concept note here https://lnkd.in/dcJyqM7h Would you like to register or want to know more about the upcoming trade mission, then you could reach out to us through [email protected].

🌹 🇰🇪 Kenya's floriculture market is a critical segment of its agricultural sector, valued at USD 861.6 million in 2018 and projected to grow annually by 4.7% between 2020 and 2025. In 2020, the country produced 142,477.8 metric tons of fresh flowers, generating an impressive USD 1.09 billion. This vibrant industry not only boosts Kenya's economy but also provides direct employment to over 150,000 people and indirectly supports more than 500,000 through related goods and services. To sustain this growth, a robust plant variety protection system is essential. https://lnkd.in/dp9UUAi5

|| Humans of the Embassy|| Hello everyone, My name is Laura Janssen and I am a senior policy officer at the international trade and investment department, based in The Hague. The past few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure to join the Trade and Investment Team at the Embassy. I’ve learned about the trade relation between both countries, the chances and challenges, and the work of the Embassy to support the position of Dutch businesses in Kenya. We have worked together on ways to enhance the trade and investment dialogue between the Netherlands and Kenya. I particularly enjoyed identifying the opportunities that existing and new regulatory frameworks, such as the EU-Kenya EPA, offer in order to strengthen the trade relationship. My key motivation for what I do, as an individual and professional, is to improve situations in ways that benefit everyone involved. This requires a good understanding of the needs and perspectives of the stakeholders. It was therefore a great opportunity that during my time at the Embassy, I’ve had the chance to meet with almost every member of the Embassy staff, civil society organizations, with senior officials from Kenyan ministries, the EU delegation and the Dutch business community. Though it was short, living in Nairobi was absolutely great. There are endless places to discover, delicious food to taste, and I love the fact that beautiful nature is literally around the corner. I was particularly impressed with the Nairobi National Park and the Karura forest. The best part of the Nairobi experience though, were the people I’ve met – super friendly, creative, resilient and open. Whether for work or for holidays, I will definitely visit Nairobi again!
