Naivas Supermarket's commitment to developing the next generation of retail leaders in Kenya is commendable, especially given the significant contribution of the retail industry to the country's GDP. By recognizing the importance of grooming talent within the sector, Naivas is not only investing in its own future but also in the economic growth of Kenya as a whole. The perception of the retail industry as a fallback plan rather than a first choice for a career is a common challenge faced globally. However, Naivas' innovative approaches, such as the Foodmarket concept, are reshaping this narrative by making careers in the supermarket industry more appealing. By offering a diverse range of opportunities across various fields, including finance, marketing, supply chain, IT, projects, and HR, Naivas is demonstrating the breadth of expertise required within the retail sector. As Naivas continues to position itself as an employer of choice in Kenya, all these efforts are geared towards attracting the best talent. The best talent, taken through the best training, forms the perfect recipe for the ultimate best service to customers who are at the core of our business.

Recruiting and training the best people is core to Naivas’ mission to provide Kenyans with a world class shopping experience, and for this reason the business has been running a graduate trainee (GT) programme since 2023. The programme is aimed at upskilling fresh graduates with competencies in various business functions within retail. The GT programme is an intense 9-month period for fresh graduates, where they are taken through various parts of the retail business. Yesterday we were pleased to be celebrating the first graduation in this programme, with 35 trainees becoming Naivas employees. #RetailIsDetail

Earlier today we made a donation of essential foodstuffs to support the ongoing flood relief efforts. The support is being channeled through the Kenya Red Cross who have been at the forefront of the relief efforts. The Kenya Red Cross is currently looking to support 4,500 households and Naivas is donating 4,500 care packs comprising of an assortment of food items including cooking oil, flour, rice, and salt, as directed by the humanitarian agency. The value of the donation amounts to Kshs. 5,000,000 and Naivas has been supported in this initiative by Capwell Industries Ltd, Pwani Oil Group and Kensalt. “We understand that time is of the essence given how dire the situation is and continues to be, and extending this support in the shortest timeframe has been our priority. Naivas feels a strong duty to assist the communities in which we operate, and this is one of those times when we must stand up to be counted. This is not a one-off initiative, but we are looking at other ways to leverage our network to keep playing our part in supporting those impacted by the devastating floods,”said David Kimani, Managing Director, Naivas. The donations were delivered by the Naivas team led by Peter Mukuha, Chief of Operations and received by the Kenya Red Cross team led by Safia Verjee - Executive Director International Center for Humanitarian Affairs, for their forward processing to the affected families.
