Candle of Hope Foundation (COHF) is multi-faceted women led organization that has been operational in Somaliland and Kenya since 2016 implementing humanitarian & development initiatives through community-initiated programs that enhance empowerment, sustainability and resilience. COHF which has its main offices in Nairobi (Kenya), and Hargeisa (Somaliland) promotes initiatives in various sectors including Anti-human trafficking and smuggling of migrants(SOM) initiatives, Health and Nutrition, Education, Livelihoods, Climate Change Adaptations, Governance (Peace Building, women and Youth Empowerment) and Inclusive Initiatives targeting people with disabilities and HIV/AIDS. COHF takes a participatory approach to project implementation. We work with communities to identify core needs and seek ways and means of solving the issues identified through citizenry public participation model. We are committed to meeting international standards of quality and accountability in all our activities. All programs are geared towards benefiting the target community in the long run by abiding with the principle of Do no Harm without hampering progress none the less. The organization has invested in policies as a guide for institutional operations, in specific with regards to our purpose, target beneficiaries, scope and what we expect to accomplish.

Have you ever paused to consider the world our children will inherit? What conclusions have you reached? Tomorrow’s world, whether bright or bleak, depends on the actions we take today. July has been that month of profound reflection and inspiring action in our global #advocacy to #endchildhoodsexualviolence. We recently held a successful workshop in Kenya, marking our second of eight movement-building and regional #advocacy workshops in Africa. Three key themes stood out from the sessions: ✨ Listen to survivor voices. Their lived experiences are essential expertise for informing and driving #policy change ✨Including voices of survivors and allies in advocacy work requires a thoughtful & intentional process. ✨Balancing human rights work with personal well-being is vital for sustained advocacy and to prevent burn-out. On 30 July, this year's global campaign for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TiP) urges accelerated action to end child trafficking. Children represent a significant proportion of trafficking victims worldwide, with girls being disproportionately affected. 1 in 3 victims of human trafficking globally is a child. I witnessed 143 vulnerable househoulds in Moite, Marsabit County, that are at risk of trafficking and forced migration due to climate change shocks, receive 3 galla goats each to help them promote the socio-economic conditions of the members of the community. This will indeed see a decline in trafficking and other forms of violence, exploitation, and abuse of young boys and girls in the region. This was made possible by World Vision Kenya, Candle of Hope Foundation in partnership with IOM - UN Migration.
Empowering communities through sustainable solutions! 😃 143 vulnerable households in Moite Community, Marsabity County, received 429 Galla goats from World Vision Kenya, in partnership with IOM - UN Migration Kenya and Candle of Hope Foundation, as part of the Trafficking in Persons (JTiP) Project to combat human trafficking. These drought-resistant Galla goats provide more milk, meat, and income, empowering families and reducing trafficking risks. The JTiP project aims to: ✅ Reduce factors driving trafficking caused by climate change. ✅ Empower communities with a sustainable income source. ✅ Build resilience against climate shocks ✅ Raise awareness on trafficking linked to climate change. 👁 Combating Human Trafficking: Eyes and Ears that matter! ☎ Did you know that bus drivers and other transport workers are often the first to come into contact with #humantrafficking victims? Recently, nearly 200 transport workers in Busia, Mombasa and Nairobi attended trainings on how to identify and refer trafficking victims. To increase its outreach, 3 Kenyan Civil Society Organisations have now joined forces to distribute awareness materials with warning signs of human trafficking and helplines, e.g. on headrests in buses and as audio messages played in vehicles. “The project has come at the best time. The process of reporting these cases has been tedious and time consuming. I can now confidently refer them to the helplines. I am relieved,” said one of the newly trained drivers. Candle of Hope Foundation ED attended the Consultative forum for CSOs within EAC and the Horn of Africa on free movement of unskilled migrant workers.. There has been rising refugee numbers, irregular migration and forced displacement in the region calling for collaborative and partnership approaches in both state and non state actors to combat this challenge. This consultative forum forms a platform and an avenue for CSOs to deliberate on the dynamics of mixed migration and policy issues affecting unskilled migrants and refugees.
