BasiGo was honored to host U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, and the Regional Managing Director for Africa at U.S. International Development Finance Corporation Vibhuti Jain today at our dedicated electric bus assembly line at Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) in Thika. The visit follows the recent approval of a $10 million loan facility by U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to support BasiGo’s delivery of locally made Electric Buses to Nairobi’s PSV sector. BasiGo’s Head of Manufacturing - Marian Muthui showcased the new assembly line which already employs over 40 workers and produces 5 buses per month. With the support of U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and other financiers, BasiGo and KVM are expanding capacity on the line to deliver 1,000 electric buses in the next 3 years, creating 300 local green manufacturing jobs in the process. With Kenya’s 90% renewable electricity, electrification of public transport holds enormous promise for the country: reducing fuel imports and air pollution, mitigating climate change, modernizing public transport, and creating valuable new jobs for Kenyans. With the support of DFC, BasiGo and KVM and delivering on the promise, creating a green industrial future for Kenya! #BasiGoDelivers #ElectricBuses #GreenJobs #EMobility

Today marks a historic moment as we proudly announce the official handover and flagging off of the first Electric Bus to join the Kenya Bus Service (KBS) fleet. KBS has been a cornerstone of Nairobi's public transport since 1928, and now they are taking a bold step forward with BasiGo into the future of e-mobility. Built right here in Kenya at the KVM assembly plant, this Electric Bus will serve the CBD – Kibera, CBD – KNH, and CBD - Utawala routes, offering a revolutionary commuter experience to more passengers within Nairobi. Powered by locally generated electric energy, each BasiGo Electric Bus deployed on our roads mitigates 50 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, significantly reducing air pollution and contributing to a greener Nairobi. Kenya Bus Service(KBS) welcome on board to the e-mobility fraternity! Let's drive towards a cleaner, more sustainable future together. #BasiGoDelivers
