For the recent Innovation Exchange Forum, AMDA was delighted to host RenewablesBridge. Andrew Winterbotham delivered an educative presentation on the role of renewable energy certificates (RECs) in corporate decarbonisation efforts and in financially supporting the operation of renewable energy projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. The session informed members on how they can aggregate their assets and explore RECs as an alternative financing tool and a way to enhance their sustainability initiatives. This is helpful to leverage economies of scale to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and access new markets. Additionally, leveraging on RECs, mini-grid developers, especially in rural off-grid locations with higher societal value, can improve the bankability of their projects as they attract environmentally conscious investors and customers. AMDA Innovation Exchange Forums are online webinar series where suppliers, solution providers and other stakeholders in the minigrid sector showcase the latest innovations in hardware, software, financing and other tools aimed at addressing challenges faced by minigrid developers and providing a pathway to profitability and scale.
