October is Global Diversity Awareness Month, and while we strive all year long to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, this month provides a great opportunity for all of us to think deeply about what diversity means, why it’s so vital in a global society, and more importantly, what we can do to promote better awareness through empathy. As a company, we strive to promote awareness and implement policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplaces. During this month, we will highlight a number of the activities that we are undertaking to address diversity and inclusion in our own company. Recently our CMO Yukiko Yamaguchi participated in a panel discussion on the topic of Attracting Women from Management to the Boardroom, held at the Embassy of Belgium in Tokyo. The session was moderated by Sandrine Monette-Hubert 🇯🇵 of the business learning network Lemon-Boost which invited panelists to speak about their experiences as managers and executives. In addition to the goal of promoting gender equality in Japan, the discussion addressed the fact that various studies have shown that companies and organizations with gender-balanced executives perform better and such organizations increase competitiveness and contribute to strong economic growth. In some countries, laws require that a certain percentage of female directors sit on the boards of directors. At the event, Antoine Evrard, the Ambassador-Designate of Belgium to Japan, commented that in Belgium, the government has been promoting diversity by formulating regulations with clear numerical targets.

Applying technology to help advance society forward: Takashi Ozaki is an electrical engineer by trade and a manager of Panasonic Connect’s Multi-network Service business. Born in Japan, he graduated from St. Louis University (U.S.) and has worked for 3 major telecom companies in the U.S., Sweden, and China accumulating over 20 years of experience as a telecommunications network consultant.   “My family runs an electrical equipment design and manufacturing company so from a young age I was interested in machines, and when I was in elementary school I built my own microcomputer and programmed games to play. I really liked the idea of making something myself and experiencing it fully.   I decided to join Panasonic in 2019 because I was convinced that here I could help develop an innovative project that would have an impact on the world, and now I’m involved in developing and delivering the company’s Multi-network Service business, which was launched in April 2021.   The purpose of this project is to build private wireless networks in environments where communication networks are not in place, such as oil and gas plants, infrastructure facilities, public transportation, and large-scale factories, and to solve the challenges faced at such sites and promote the transition to smart factories. By combining a private wireless network with software such as image sensing and facial recognition, along with edge devices such as tablets and wearable cameras, we can provide the most suitable service according to the application and environment and also provide total support from consulting to operation and maintenance. Basically I have the task of linking various technologies so solve each customer’s individual challenges. My role is quite demanding but it’s also very rewarding when I can see that my work is helping to advance society forward.”

Panasonic's PTZ cameras were installed in 29 press rooms at Paris 2024 and the interview footage shot by the PTZ cameras was sent to the Main Press Centre (MPC). By consolidating simultaneous interpretation at the MPC, translation services were provided from remote locations, reducing the need for travel.
