The Forefront of Hydrogen Power Generation 1 In November 2023, #MitsubishiPower successfully completed a 30% hydrogen co-firing test using a state-of-the-art 1,650 °C class JAC #gasturbine at the GTCC testing facility in Takasago Hydrogen Park. This is the world’s first demonstration using a fuel mixture of 30% hydrogen that is produced and stored at the same facility and connected to the local power grid. 100% hydrogen combustion tests for a small- and medium-sized gas turbines in an actual power plant have been started as well. Gas Turbines in Depth – Raising thermal efficiency Gas turbine development is a challenge against “heat.” The higher the combustion temperature of the fuel injected into the turbine blades, the higher the power generation efficiency, which in turn reduces the amount of CO2 emitted per unit output. #MitsubishiPower began developing the 700°C class #gasturbine in 1963. Since then, we have achieved higher temperatures with the 1,250°C class, the 1,350°C class, the 1,500°C class, the 1,600°C class, and the 1,650°C class in 2020 that has achieved the world’s highest class of thermal efficiency, 64% efficiency. We are now aiming for 1,700°C class and 65% or higher efficiency. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gSRP8fde #EnergyTransition #MissionNetZero #PowerGeneration #GasTurbines

#MitsubishiPower is advancing next-generation energy technologies for decarbonization at two facilities in Japan. By collaborating closely between Takasago and Nagasaki, Mitsubishi Power aims to support the transition to a hydrogen society. 🔵Takasago Hydrogen Park (Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture) This integrated facility is verifying technologies for hydrogen production, storage, and power generation for the rapid commercialization of #hydrogen #gasturbines. Hydrogen single-firing and co-firing are being tested in actual gas turbines for power generation to improve product reliability. 🔴Nagasaki Carbon Neutral Park (Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture) This facility is a base for technology development related to energy decarbonization, which is producing biomass fuel and developing ammonia firing technologies in addition to hydrogen production. Key technologies developed here are being used for demonstration of hydrogen production and hydrogen power generation at Takasago Hydrogen Park. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gRwTcKKH

Gas Turbine Assembly Shop – How is a #gasturbine assembled? About 65,000 parts go into a huge gas turbine with a total length of about 16m and a total weight of about 500 tons. The time to complete a turbine varies depending on the model, but it’s about a month for a team of five to six professionals. Even the slightest scratches can lead to serious accidents, so meticulous inspections are carried out before and after assembly, and assembly is done carefully to exacting standards, where variances are measured in microns. Mitsubishi Power’s #Hydrogen Project – US 1. What Is the Advanced Clean Energy Storage Project ❓ It’s a construction project for a hydrogen hub in Utah in the U.S. — the world’s largest hydrogen plant and storage facilities. It will produce up to 100 tons of green hydrogen per day through electrolysis of water using renewable energy. Two large salt caverns will be used to store the hydrogen. The purpose is to store surplus renewable energy as hydrogen that can be converted back into electricity for the grid when needed to be cost effective and have maximum renewable energy utilization. 2. The Hydrogen Will Fuel Intermountain Power’s New Plant 💡 The green hydrogen produced in the project will be used for a 840 MW #GTCC power plant that Mitsubishi Power is building for Intermountain Power. Starting in 2025 with a 30% green hydrogen blend, the GTCC plant aims to gradually increase hydrogen use to achieve 100% green hydrogen operation by 2045. Mitsubishi Power’s #Hydrogen Project – UK 1. What is Zero Carbon Humber ❓ It is the U.K.’s largest decarbonization project for its largest industrial cluster, and it has been advancing in the triangular delta of the Humber River on the east coast of Britain. Mitsubishi Power and 11 other companies and institutions, such as Equinor ASA, a major energy company based in Norway, are working together to achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2040 by utilizing hydrogen produced from natural gas with CO2 capture and removal technologies. 2. The role of Mitsubishi Power 💡 Mitsubishi Power is developing the technology to convert the fuel for three #gasturbine units in a 1200 MW #GTCC natural gas power plant that provides power for the region and will conduct feasibility studies.
