Welcome to Linical. You’ve joined us as Senior Director, Biostatistics. Tell us more about your role and what you’ll be overseeing here at Linical. A: My role here at Linical is multifaceted. I am heading up the Biostatistics group for the Western Region of Linical (Americas and Europe), which is both Biostatistics and Statistical Programming. This includes management responsibilities, but also being sponsor-facing. With much of our team being in Europe, I also act as a liaison providing biostatistical oversight for our US sponsors. I also hope to utilize my years of experience, especially around study designs and regulatory interactions and CNS indications to assist sponsors with some of their difficult issues. Q: In your opinion, what made you want to join Linical? Is there something that makes Linical special from other companies? A: I have really enjoyed my time at Linical. It starts with “the People," and Linical has some of the best, not just in their abilities but also in how we work together to solve problems. The biggest factor in any good working environment, is the people, from top to bottom, and their ability to openly communicate and effectively do their jobs without feeling like you are looking over their shoulders all the time. Q: What makes you passionate about your work? A: Like everyone else involved, it is exciting when you see positive results (that a drug works). But beyond that, I love the creativity that Biostatistics utilizes. Being able to come up with creative solutions to problems - problems that maybe you’ve not seen before. Often it is in the study design itself, or an interim analysis, the randomization, or even recruitment, or how we describe the study results. Q: What is the importance of #Biometrics in #clinicalresearch? What impact can data management and biostatistics have on a clinical trial? A: High quality Biometrics services are critical to the success of clinical research. A drug/biological/medical-device is only as good as the supporting data indicates it is. That starts with Data Management determining what data and how it will best be collected, properly and efficiently collecting the data, and then reviewing it and checking to see that it was completed/reported correctly and without contradictory information elsewhere in the database. Biostatistics plays a role in that as well. In addition to interpreting the study data (via TLFs), biostatistics impact should start with the study design itself, making sure that the study design is appropriate to meet the study objectives, that the endpoints adequately address the objectives, that the measures used are appropriate and measurable and interpretable, and lastly that there is a sufficient number (but not too many) of patients planned. #LifeatLinical #Lini...
