📢 Investment in Power to Hydrogen 📢 JERA has invested approx. 2M USD in Power to Hydrogen through our corporate venture capital arm, JERA Ventures.   Power to Hydrogen, headquartered in Ohio, the United States, develops and manufactures an innovative water electrolysis technology known as the "Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolysis." This ground-breaking technology allows for the low-cost production of hydrogen.   The adoption of this technology is expected to enable the generation of low-cost CO2-free green hydrogen as AEM has rapid response time that pairs well with the intermittent renewable power generation and eliminates the use of expensive rare metals, contributing significantly to global decarbonization efforts and addressing energy challenges. 💡 Two weeks ago, JERA Asia CEO Izumi Kai had the pleasure of attending the 4th IndoPACIFIC LNG Summit in Bali, Indonesia, hosted by the Indonesian Gas Society. Mr. Kai participated in a panel discussion on the current state and future prospects of the hydrogen revolution. With JERA taking the lead in developing a low carbon value chain, Mr. Kai shared his insights on our decarbonization initiatives across the region and the strong synergies between LNG, ammonia, hydrogen, and renewables.   As part of our 2035 Growth Strategy unveiled in April 2024, JERA continues to support the energy transition across three strategic pillars: LNG, renewables, and low carbon fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen, and is committed to reducing total CO2 emissions by 60% over the next decade and achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050. JERA and DENSO join forces to develop high-efficiency hydrogen generation technology with a demonstration project at a JERA thermal power station. Beginning in FY2025, the two parties will conduct a hydrogen production demonstration test using an 200kW SOEC (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell) technology developed by DENSO at one of JERA’s thermal power stations. The project plans to further improve efficiency by incorporating exhaust heat from JERA’s power plant. The future plan is to scale up the technology to multi-thousand kW by integrating multiple cells.
